I assume he means something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...761478250&rd=1

I certainly don't know anything about them, as far as quality / brands goes.

That does sound intresting, but only helpful for a low type of item (or short kid ). Nothing beats looking over the shoulder

i remember once a many year ago, costco sold a reverse sensor that took place of the two lower license plate moutning holes in the rear...it actually worked pretty well....though it wasnt very waterproof..

Sensors would be a lot cheaper than a camera, unless you already have a tv screen in front. You can also get one of those sensors that are built into the license plate frame if you don't want to spend a lot of money, or you don't want to cut holes in your bumper.

Most new Lexus, and Mercedes come with this ...You actually need 4 sensors to have a good readout. Most kits come with 2 and then they charge extra for the other 2, plus some even charge extra for the readout gauge..and that's only for backing up!..If you want it for the front too, then you need another kit with 4 sensors...Comes out to about even versus a camera...I'd go with a camera..

I got one and installed it in my xB. I installed the sensors in the hatchback and had to run the wires from the sensors up through the rubber hose connecting the hatchback to the body and then down the right rear channel. This is not the best way to install it as I had to lengthen the sensor wires, but it worked just fine. My spoose was so impressed by it that she had me get one for her Kia minivan, which I installed today. I installed hers in the bumper, which is much easier...

It goes beep....beep....beep when you are about a yard and a half from something. Beep, beep, beep when you are closer than a yard and beeeeeeeeeeep, when you are less than one foot from backing into something.

It is powered by the wires from the backup light, so it is only on when you are actually backing up.

The guy selling them on eBay (from Hong Kong) also offers a dashboard add-on that tells you the actual distance. I did not think that would be useful as I would then have to look at the dash. Looking backward is assisted by the aural feedback...

I'd put 4 of them on for that luxury look.

It's worth noting that japanese body kit companies are selling stick-on rubber dots designed to mimic the look of backup sensors.
