Hey you guys, I'm deciding on painting my stock engine cover to kinda spice up the engine bay. I'm not going for color change paint, or anything...Just two colors.

Base color for the cover (where the black is now), and the Silver VVT-i logo.

What colors should I do the cover in??

I have a Black xB with Grey dot graphics on the sides, red interior features, red logo centercaps on my wheels, etc..

I was orginally thinking of Flat red, and flat black VVT-i badge. Kinda like a JDM looking B-Series Honda valve cover..

How does that sound??? I'm stuck..lol

Please ANY ideas would help.

I would get the Carbon Creations cover, but I don't have $$$...lol

Someone should make one identical to stock but out of red plastic. That would be awesome. I would go with red.

 

Mine is red. I used Duplicolor Honda Milano Red. I'm probably gonna redo it...

 

I used duplicolor black with a high temp clearcoat, and taped off the silver.

 

How about crinkle finish red?

You see, if you guys don't know what a B18c Integra Type-R engine looks like, this is what I'm trying to go for... http://www.streetimports.com/engines...c-typermed.jpg too bad, no one has made a kick-___ valve cover for the 1NZ-FE's yet....

Mikochu, how did you paint yours?? Any tips?? Does Duplicolor sell a Flat Red? or a Flat Black that is protected from heat??

I really need to like get on this project and get it done b4 next sat. (14th).

btw, NOW if I could only get a REAL VVT-i emblem I would shave the logo off the engine cover and stick the emblem right on there, along with maybe a TRD M-Sports Emblem :twisted: hehe

Here are some suggestions...

First, don't use vinyl dye...it'll peel off in no time. Try to use a high temperature paint. You may want to use a primer... My paint job was good until the oil change mechanic chipped it... I'll probably try Duplicolor's Adhesion Promoter next time around. There seems to be a coating on it that prevents paint from sticking to it. Coat it with primer... Then when the primer is dry, do light coats of the paint. Slow and steady wins the race against orange peel!

As for the text and logo...I used a silver sharpie (randode tip!). You might have to wait between sharpie coats...

I don't know about flat colors...check your local auto part store...or Walmart...

 

if you want to leave your VVTi badge silver when you paint it, it would be lot easier if you just (VERY CAREFULLY) spread a very thin layer of vaseline on it, after the paint has fully cured you can wipe the cover down with a good rag and *presto*, your two-color cover.

also, you shouldn't just be taking the cover out, wiping it off and squirting color on it, you MUST wipe every square inch of it down with a good solvent (e.g MEK, etc) and then preferably, spray it with a primer coat that will act as an adhesion promoter. That's one (of several) of the points of primer, to make the paint stick better. Also, if you use a white or light gray primer, you will need fewer coats of paint to hide the black plastic.

 

i used the red metalcast. supposed to look like anodized aluminum. not exactly what i wanted but it does have a nice look. check out my link below.

Anyone know of a paint that's heat-resistant or whatever that matches the Lava? There's a lot of places around here that can match it with PPG, but I don't know if it'll withstand the heat :? Help please!
