Default Air bags

Be glad if you didn't need them. My wife and I are first responders and have seen more injuries from unnecessary air bag depolyment. Broken noses, hands, wrist.
I still question the pillow bomb in my face every day.

Tell us more about the wreck. Do you think you needed them? did the seat belts lock up?

How severe was the wreck? Were you wearing a seatbelt? Did your body hit the steering wheel?

If you didn't get injured hitting the steering wheel, I don't see why you would want the airbags to deploy, they could have caused more harm than they saved.

Were you going 35 at impact, or had you been on the brakes for a while? You might have been slowed down to the point where the computer turns off the air bags.

You don't want the airbags to deploy in relatively slow collisions, as the belts will restrain you sufficiently and there is a danger of the air bag injuring your arm if it is between the bag and your body. It can also injure your body if the bag throws your arm into your face or chest.

IIRC, in Europe they train new drivers never to cross their arms over the wheel so as to avoid injury if the air bag deploys.

I would be happy that I could be here posting about how my air bag did not work. It might not have came out for a few reasons. The good things to look at.

1. Your Still Alive!
2. 1 less thing insurance company can right off & claim it to be totaled (you know how much those air bags cost to replace?)
3. Life goes on.
4. We went about 90 years of automotive history before airbags became standard, so there are still some bugs to work out. Also on this same topic the only "Help reduce the risk of seriouc injury in the event of a accident" The dont tell you they hold a risk for causing injury in a accident.

Air bags hurt and are expensive. You dont want it to go off if at all possible. How fast was the car you hit going? Your car is supposed to crush like that. It absorbs the impact so that you dont have to.

Looks very similar to my wreck I had in Feb. I was going about 35 mph when I rear ended a Trailblazer. Both of my airbags went off, sucked. The insurance company didnt total the vehicle, but there was almost $12,000 worth of damage. It took them over 5 weeks to get it fixed.

Glad to hear you guys are okay. Airbags hurt a lot. My passengers chest was sore for a week after it happend.

In November of '02, we hit a deer with our '03 Corolla.... We had been doing 60, and I had absolutely no time to respond to the thing, as it jumped right in front of me. The airbags did not deploy then, either, and I was concerned about it. The car was still drivable, but pretty crunched. Toyota said the deer itself was not enough to have triggered the airbag deployment. So, I'd just go with the thought that your hitting the other car was not forceful enough for the airbags to deploy. Be thankful! It could have been WAY worse.

So not totalled? I thought that any airbag deployment was a total.

I had $4800 before. Sucks.

Before that I had $1100

Never move to Indiana, people can only see what is five feet in front of their bumper, and definitely nothing on their side.
