Another question...looks like I will use Safelite, and see if USAA will help me out at all...I may go to the dealer for laughs, and see what they say...

are different kinds of glass available? I am more than willing to pay more for thickness...I wonder how much it would cost to get bulletproof

You should seriously check into that. I know in Florida there is no deductible for windshields so if something happens to mine, I'm going to get the best damn glass available. I already have a pit on the passenger side of the windshield and my car has barely 12,500 miles on it.

I got a crack within one month of owning my xB and had it fixed. Then wack hit a couple of weeks later and a big L shaped crack in front the the rear mirror.I just left it thinking I would get it replaced later. Its been about 4 months and nothing I mean nothing has hit my windshield.I just know that if I replace the windshield it will get hit.

On a side note I have been looking at other cars and trucks on the road and I would say one out of five have a crack in the windshield around here.I think its all of the construction on the highways.I was thinking it was car specific but seeing all the other windshields cracked on all different kinds of cars it makes me think that maybe its not all about the xB and the crappy windshields.I will leave mine the way it is until after winter then have it fixed next summer.

yeah, construction with all the rocks, dirt, and general chaos is always a pain .... trucks and big trailers kick up all of that.
i have a pit that spiderwebs 1 inch, a pit with a small 1 inch crack across, and a regular 2 inch crack on the original windshield ... i'm gonna also try to wait it out until next year and see the condition then ...

I suppose I could let it go for a while....got nothing to lose, if anything else hits it I could care less....hope the damn thing shatters and injurs me somehow, then I can get everyone's windshields replaced ;)

I'm just glad the one nick I have is from awhile back and hasn't spread. Glad I leave work at 2am and there is barely anyone else on the road to be kicking anything up.

does this constitute unbridled, over the top, old fashioned, inexplicable, unjustified, inappropriate, pathetic, ungrateful, sniveling, just plain here's-4-bits-call-someone-who-cares whining? Oh, check that. My shrink says I'm being too harsh.

Eh...more like someone with a brand new car that has a ruined windshield, who is trying to find a resolution to the problem without spending hundreds of dollars...

And that wasn't harsh, just pointless

It's OK, Andy, I understand. I was like that my first couple of scratches and pits, too. The chances that the dealer will do anything for you are pretty close to 0%. My approach was just drive the s#!T out of it and enjoy it. Yeah, I still cry a little over the damage she's recieved. ...but overall (from your description) I'd say you got that same batch of fate that many new car owners got... rocked! Remember you're driving one of the coolest vehicles on the road (and cops don't generally look to pull over new cars for window damage). Enjoy!

My J crack goes the otherway but the same.I was hit by a pretty big rock about 1 1/2 inches down from the top and it cracked right away into the J.It only cracked about 2 more inches after that then it has just stoped.

Speaking of other cars (pg 1), we had a Cub Scout car wash today and there were cracked/chipped windsheilds on about 25% of those we washed. Not to mention the two stone chips in my xB from this past winter and the five(!) other stone chips in out two other cars. All happened between the beging of Feb through late April. I repaired only the first one in the xB and the second has been there a couple of months but I figure untill I get one directly in front of the driver I'll try to tough it out until next spring.

Andrewmham , Why doesn't your insurance cover windshield replacement? Is your deductable to high?

Mines 2 years old with just one little pit. I'll prolly have it replaced in 2 more years just so it looks new again.

my deductable is 500$....If I want it down to 200, I pay an extra 30$ each 6 months, which I may be doing.

I had no idea glass deductables could be that high. There are also some glass places that will tke care of some of the deductable so shop around.
