Default Forget the factory security system

The price of the factory security system is ridiculous, I realized. Just got my Prestige alarm system (w/remote start), + tints (to help with the AC issues) for about $400 total. That's still cheaper than just the basic Toyota alarm system.

The alarm install is very clean. Remote start is very cool. Blue status LED flashes on one of the switch blanks. Just need to figure out what to use the last switch blank for now!

Got 20% tints all around, didn't want to go any darker since police here in Hudson County NJ aren't that lenient with tints (illegal to have tinted fronts).

Just a tip to any new Scion owners thinking about what options to get...I'd recommend skipping the factory alarm, and going with something cheaper/better.

its good working in places that sell car alarms. 250$ for clifford alarm system, with pager that tells you if your alarm went off. if only they werent so tight about the discounts.

Hey Steve, check out this thread (towards the bottom):

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...light=clifford

Good question though... I'm actually looking to get the Clifford system, since I've heard that the Scion Security one doesn't work too well (once again, check out that thread). I had my car broken into this weekend; bastards took everything -- they broke my back passenger window but were nice enough to open the trunk from inside, yet they ripped my dash apart and took my stereo, subs and amp So a good security system is now the #1 priority on my list of mods when I get my xA.

I have a generic alarm (that Toyota included) on my 2000 Toyota Corolla. Its worthless, had my car keyed 2x over the last two years, freakn drunks (most likely as I live near a bar) hit and scratched up both my bumpers badly and the alarm didn't go off. Now if I ever decide to fix the damages, it got to come out of my own pocket. I think I already made 1 to many claims with State Farm.

More recently my alarm somehow seized up and I couldn't start my car when I was leaving a shopping center. The cost to fix, $35.

I'm not sure what's wrong with Scion Security, I will check that thread. Thanks for hearing a new guy out.
