Default Front Disk

Well, it's finally time to replace my front brakes and I need to get the disk off so I can turn 'em. What is required to in removing them? I've never really payed attention to what holds them on... Is it the axle nuts? or is there some kind of hidden trick like the drums?
Thanks-

no tricks at all , remove your brake calipers and then there will be two 17mm bolts holding the caliper mounting brackets onto the spindle.

They are pressed onto the hub slightly. Find a bolt that fits those small holes between the wheel studs and screw them in till the disc comes off.

Good luck, they should not be that hard. Spray the centers with penetrating oil before you try and remove them.

Hey Jeff, any idea what the thread size is on these? Would be nice to buy the bolts ahead of time!

I don't recall but it's on here some place. The manual doesn't even talk about the way to remove the disc. I'm gonna try a search on here and see what comes up.

You just need to hit the rear of the rotor with a good brass hammer! Voila! It's off...

Ok. So the axle nut doesn't hold it, right? I wonder if those threads are the same as the drums......

I jsut finished a brake job on my xB and there was no indication the rotor was pressed on. In fact I have never heard of a rotor being pressed onto a hub. When I removed the caliper & caliper bracket the rotor came right off.

I have had with other cars the rotor rust to the hub, which I supposed could give the impression of being pressed in place. But a few carefully placed whacks with a hammer would pop it loose.
