GAS MILEAGE CHALLENGE!
Okay, i challenge everyone to, next fill up, set the trip meter, and until you refill, try and get the BEST gas economy you can. Do anything you can, coast, drive 55 on the highway, anything... and then post it here! i recently went out and tried it pretty loosely, and i got 32mpg 1/2 city 1/2 highway! if i really get into it, i can probably get a good 35 like they say on the sticker!
anyways, i hope to see some sweet mpg's posted

someone ought to strip their car of ac and power steering and the interior as well. drive w/o a spare, close the windows, drive in freezing air, go on a diet, draft an 18 wheeler, and run the car lean with an s-afc.
This reminds me of an old movie. The star's neighbor was obsessed with his gas mileage. So every night the star would sneak over and put more gas in the neighbor's car. The neighbor was really excided as his mileage went up and up. Then the star started syphoning gas instead of adding it, and the neighbor panicked as his mileage dropped and dropped and dropped.
kind of off topic, my dad got about 50+ mpg in a early dodge omni 5 spd this was about 15 or more years ago, when gas prices was all cheap 'n' stuff he filled up twice cause he only bought 1.50 worth of gas, he'll get up to speed shut the engine off and coast to the light when about gets to the stop he'll start it up again, with out the use of the starter!!! and then the company took that car away from him and they gave him an auto
I know this does not help any one with scions, but my current 1996 Corsica with a 3.1L V6 & 4spd auto I was able to get 33mpg with that thing & thats my average. So if I can manage to get 33mpg with a V6 thats a little over 2 times the size of the xA & xB engine then you guys should be able to hit at least that. Also my car weighs in at 3120Lbs with me in it.

Hmm. Last night I checked the notebook I keep in the car for recording gas & miles. I've put almost 2300 miles on my xB, and overall I've gotten 34.4 MPG. Not doing anything special, but most (easliy 95%) of my driving has been on the highway.

How did your xB handle the mountain pass while it was loaded down with gear. I live near Oly too, and am making a trip to Sun Lakes this weekend and am curious as to how my xB will do. I'll be carrying a total of 3 people and camping gear. I hope I will be able to do at least the speed limit over Snoqualmie Pass.
BTW my record so far is 34MPG with intermitten use of A/C.
I was reading in Car and Driver where they ran an Echo (which should be pretty similar to a Scion) against a Civic Hybrid, a Prius, and a Jetta TDI for mileage... the Echo did pretty well against the other two, although it did average 14 mpg at the track... and considering the fact that I usually have to keep revs within 1000 rpm's of redline, and have the throttle floored more often than not, I'd wager that, with an xA or xB, I'd probably average right around 20 mpg... probably dip under 20 on good days.
