Default hatch opening size

I need to pick a package up this afternoon and don't have a tape measure with me at the moment. Anyone know the hatch opening size on our xB

Package i need to pick up is 58"x44"x27" its a crate

58" isn't an issue because that can be depth into the xB. I do need 44" in either height or width of opening.

anyone know off hand or can measure like right now?

thanks in advance,
Jeff

The package is a bit too big to adequately fit through the rear hatch. The hatch is not wide, nor tall enough to accomodate 44" without scuffing the daylights out of the panelling. Also, 58" would just barely allow the rear hatch to close, and that would require you to pull the front seats forward.

its also only 27" for a width(shouldn't touch the side panels). I think i better go measure to be sure. 58" should fit...thats less then 5' and i can simply put the seats a bit forward since i'm only 5'9". its less then one hour drive each way. my only concern is that 44"

Your problem IS the 44". The hatch is 45" at its widest point at the base, but the opening tapers inward as you go up. If the package is a perfect rectangle, then you will not have enough clearance at 27" high to accomodate a 44" wide box. The hatch is also NOT 44" high, so the box cannot be turned any other way.
Sorry, dude. Without tearing up the interior panelling or altering the shape of the box, you are going to have a VERY difficult time fitting the package into the xB.

I hadn't even measured the plastic around the shock towers. If that box is rectangular, 44" wide X 27" high, it is probably not going to even make it through the hatch opening, let alone come into contact with the shock towers. You will need to bend the box in order to get it through the hatch opening. It is going to be VERY close.

Maybe on an angle it will fit - the height of the hatch is 35" - I don't know how someone said they got 4x8 sheets of plywood in the back...
