I was looking to do the same thing around fall of last year, so I have some advice to offer. I was hoping to snag a deal on the old xb with the new one being out. I went to the dealership and he said he COULD get one (this was when there were about 50 left nationwide), but ordering what i wanted would be difficult due to such limited supply, and i would have to wait a while. also, it would cost as much as a 2nd gen xb.

so, i went and searched autotrader and ebay and what not, and saw that finding one with low miles that hadn't been tastelessly modded to death was impossible, and with 20k miles on them they cost barely less than a brand new 08!! so i went back to the dealer, test drove an 08, loved it, bought it, and dont regret it whatsoever.

I still love the first gens and I do like the exterior styling better, but after driving both I think the 2nd gen has a lot more to offer overall. So, my advice is to atleast give the second gen a shot since its the same price and you just might like it. Otherwise, prepare yourself for the fun process of finding a good used car.

3 weeks ago I purchased an 05 with 34K for $12K out the door SCION Certified with 7yr/100k mile warranty and 10 free oil changes and the best thing, It had a full tank of Gas, which I think was a deal! Dealerships get them and sell them almost the same day because of the interior room and City MPG's! I was looking for ever on Cars.com and autotrader and they where averaging $15-16K+. Hey, maybe I can sell mine and make a profit

No way, I love the fuel economy, my poor 4ruuner just sits there with a sad face now, and gas here in NY is about $3.64 for regular!!!!!!!!

Wow.. That's a steal.. $12K with low mileage like that.. with warranty and oil changes.. See I'm a suckah for freebies..

I wonder why the resale value for these cars are staying like this. Makes us Scion Buyers look smart for buying such great cars..
