Saw a Salsa Red just several hours ago, looked mostly stock, had a diecast of one to give away a few months back but ended up sending it to a young boy named Kyle in Colorado who likes Scions but will never be able to drive. Only second one I ever spotted in that color

yep the xbs are cursed, also my 06 when it had 15k I went to see how much it was worth, I KBBed it and it was barely worth 1500, and if I turned it back to stock it would be worth 1k

Did you mean 1500 or 15 K? Then you said turning it back to stock and it was only 1K? Did you mean 10K?...........I hope so. Our cars have an exceptionally high resale value........................if you are the one trying to buy it. Try trading it and even a Toyota Dealer will act as if you are trying to unload a used Yugo in poor condition. Seems you need to carry around a tube of KY when you visit a car lot, huh?

$1,500 if I leave my wheels and headunit in, if I put the stock wheels and hubs back on and the stock stereo back in its only worth about 1,000

I was thinking about trading it for a rs4, but decided not to because I'm in the hole over 15k still and the car is worthless the banks laugh at me when I go in to refinance

You just discovered the worst problem with VW--the dealership network. My girlfriend was in the market for a new beetle earlier this year but the dealerships were such jackasses that we gave up. Then we tried a local used VW dealer and still got the runaround. We finally just picked one up through Carmax and actually had a great buying experience. Still, I hate that car. The only thing I've done so far is change the oil and rotate the tires and I can already see so many examples of stupid engineering. And the reliability...well, we haven't had anything go wrong yet but I've heard so many horror stories that I don't even like to think about her taking long trips in that POS. Anytime we travel together we always take my car.

Yeah, I'm more than a little hesitant. I expected pretty much just what I encountered at the dealership, maybe a little less outright blatant BS, but they managed to exeed my expectations. Kinda sucks that a car I would like to have has such a lousy rep for reliability. I'll have to be VERY sold on whichever individual car I'm interested in and would probably consider an extended warranty.
Something else...........did you ever notice, you never (at least here in my area) see VW Beetles with aftermarket stuff on them? You know, custom wheels, exhaust systems, etc? Tons of Jettas.......POS cars....even more of them for sale, but Beetles.......never.
The modern Beetle seems an over-engineered overly complicated car, not the simple machine I owned in 73.
