Bullsh*t on the dog causing 7800 dollar damage, show us the estimate. BS on your friend too as you didn't say how fast he was going when he backed into the poll which required him to need "a whole new back" - whatever that means.

Cars are expensive, take care of them if you don't want to dish out money.
Wow! Those videos really show how light the bB is.

Maybe so, but watch the videos of the larger, heavier cars in the same tests. They fly around pretty good, too.

OK people listen up... Size doesn't mean a thing. It can work against you in an accident.
Would you rather be in a light structure that is deasigned to handle the force of an impact or be in something large that comes into from all points?

The above link proves a point. I just bought a mini and did much research. It has a NHTSA of 4 stars for all points in the car. It is engineered to handle the impact.
Look how the pickup frame is damaged and intrudes into the passenger compartment?
Not to mention the MINI could handle its way out of an accident much better than a large vehicle.

Don't worry about damage, a lot of it is for your safety. If you have decent insurance they'll cover the car (paying for a 15-20k car is a lot cheaper then paying for 1 surgery, or even a few days at the hospital...)

The pic that Fetthunter posted impresses me. The integrity of the car looks fine as the structure maintained its shape. It didn't buckle on impact anyways. I can't imagine the box is in any way less safe than any other compact car on the road. Just my 2 pennies.

These are also my observations, the skin and outer pieces are fragile and vunerable to being damaged quite easily. The crumble zones and saftey designed into the subframe seems to be sound. The car has solid engineering with very light materials to keep weight and cost down. You can't have it all....
Exactly!

400 lb Great Dane wearing a spiked collar and biker helmet stole my car! JK

I crashed my XB into the side of a Saturn. I'd estimate 20-30 mph impact. I squared the front end. Air bags did not deploy, No one was hurt, The fogs and headlights on my car remained intact.

The car was claimed a total loss due to frame bending. I've read about 4 or 5 other collision stories with the XB where the damage was low, but the frame was bent and considered a total loss.

The frame and the body are one in the same on the xB.
So any tweaking of the "frame" it likely to result in retiring
the car.

So yeah, don't hit stuff with your car!

Insurance can repair or replace your car. The same is not true for your life. I've read reports of xB's landing on the roof and the doors open easily. Go buy a Hummer if you are going to back into poles. Bottom line is the car is expendable, my family is not.
