Default How do you remove the silver accents on the steering wheel?

as well as those on the doors and on the shifter? Can it be done without taking the out the larger components they're attached to?

And yes, I did try searching... for three days. Search on this site could use a boost.

Thanks for any help!

yeah, that's the plan. However, painting them correctly would be much easier if they were outside of the car. that's what I'm getting at.

was also wondering how to get those ones off the steering wheel and door with out taking off the whole panel. i think the one on the shifter you have to take out the center console. but that comes out pretty easy i think its one screw and thats it.

the trim ring around the shifter comes off with the center console, and yes, it does come off easily. The piece actually on the shifter, however, is a different story.

you either use a small flathead screwdriver and pop them off , probably breaking a few of the pieces that hold them on or you remove the airbag and remove them from behind. i popped mine off they still stay on no problems and one side is missing almost half the lil pins.

If your Referreing to the Panel for the power windows and switches . . Take your door panel off and pop them out and un hook the wire.. You might could get away not taking the door panel off but I wouldnt risk breaking the plastic clip on the back..

do it right the first time ya know .. hope that helps

Thanks for the info everyone! I got the door accents and the ring around the shifter off and painted. Still not really sure about those steering wheel pieces.

Is there a technical manual somewhere that details their removal?

I taped my steering wheel off and shielded the interior with news paper around the area I was goingt o spray. Worked fine for me.

For those still needing questions answered, PM miniH2 in the Desert and Salt region because he has painted every interior piece that needs painting including the accents on the steering wheel...

Correct. You MUST go in from the front. There is a metal tab you must push back. The cover will just pop up when pushed in. Something thin and long like a knife (the butterknife variety works very well. If you go in from the back, there is a rigid plastic piece that you can break.

True story, however, I ended up taking both front door-panels off. It would have been much easier if I would have known about that damned metal clip.
