How does one go about getting sponsored??
This will get you in the right direction, if you have the time and money start working on your car. You need to get noticed and be seen
*Show up at events and document them, take pictures of your ride but also think about the rest of the crew that did not make it. Take pics and offer up some play by play of the event. The all spokes model post doesn’t add much to the portfolio unless they are tastefully accenting your ride.
• Clubs are not required but as an active participant in local events get you recognized. Leadership, hard work, volunteering and supporting your crew and those that are not make you someone to look up to. When it comes time to get references you can rely on your contacts for them.
• The portfolios, always keep it updated and accurate, never fudge or stretch the truth. It is your personality, creativity, integrity and hard work that sponsors are looking for.
Hope this helps. I know there's more pre-reqs out there that you could find.

Stick's got some good pointers - but the first thing people seem to never realize .. unless you've already HAD a 1/2 dozen cars sponsored - NO ONE will touch you until you've already dropped an ___ load of your own money and time into your car .. basically, on a first car - by about the time it's completely done (more or less) and looks good... THEN they start wanting to sponsor the car (and IMHO, it's to late for them as far as I'd be concerned).
Generally I don't like sponsorships, they can be a pain in the ___ to deal with as there are always conditions (but what do you expect! they have get SOMETHING in return for there money, right?), and frankly - very few are true SPONSORSHIPS, not always, but more often than not a sponsorship just means they sold you something at "cost". You still fork out money, just not as much as retail.

Well you either have a vehicle that's worth being sponsored or you better be a good salesmen and convience a company that you're worth sponsoring on a project. It can be done on the first vehicle but it's hard and honestly not worth the effort.
From what I've heard the process basically goes like this:
Step 1: Build full-blown show car with your own money.
Step 2: Get reduced-cost parts for said show car in exchange for humongous vinyls on the side of your car and a role as a minor-league salesman (see how people talk up the zeta armrest on here).
Basically what companies are looking for is a good showcase for their products (your car) and a salesman (you) to talk them up. If you can do that on a regular basis, you might get sponsored. I also think it depends on who you know. If you've got hook-ups in the industry, you're in a much better position.
In conclusion, I wouldn't worry about getting your car sponsored. If you want cheap parts, you're better off scouring eBay and the classefieds for used, but in new condition stuff. Just have fun with your car. It's yours, not some company's.

Thanks everyone!!
I read this to my husband. Stylis its not MY xB its the yellow one I was asking about. ;)
My husband thinks or thought that he needed to be sponsored in order to be accepted at shows and stuff.
I told him if we're already going to put OUR money into your car why be someones puppet. He of course, had to hear that from others who he feels know what they're talking about more than I do.
I basically told him: They put their name on YOUR car and tell YOU where to go and when!!!! lol I guess you all pretty much summed it up for him.
The racey stickers are just mods on the cars right?? They're not ALL sponsorships, am I correct to assume that?? The so called ROLL CALL thing??
Thanks a million guys. IF this was a repeat post I apologize. Sometimes I just need more detail than I've read.
TIA!
You guys are always the BIGGEST help!!!!

Right - most of the times when you see a bunch of stickers on someones car - it's just rice. Half the times those people don't even have hald that crap even on the car. The local dealer here had a Roll Call on an xB - and it was bone stock. Dumbest thing I ever saw. As far as being sponsored at shows - the judges I know are usually more impressed by the cars that have NO stickers or sponsors - it shows you put all the work, money and effort in to the car - and it was 100% yours. A show winner is usually something with a lot of effort put in it - not something that someone had a big delivery day from FedExcuse and just bolted a bunch of crap on and slapped some stickers.

This is the first car I have ever tried to get sponsored. It's all about your proposal and how you sell yourself to the company.
I don't know anyone in the business and I haven't had to kiss anyone's a**. I haven't had sponsors tell me I had to do certain stuff or have to put a big ___ vinyl on my car. I have some sponsors that are full (K&N, Zeta and Street Image) and some that are partial (Strup and a few others I couldn't afford at the time; ie: Katzkin and JIC).
You do have to do some stuff to your car before you can be sponsored, just to get thier attention. But it is also about finding the little company that needs the exposure or finding the big company with a new product they want out on the street.
It's not as near as difficult or onerous as some of these people make it out to be.
I love all this info!!
My husband likes the CLEAN look! He had stickers but someone sliced them {hater} and he cleaned up and likes it better. He's never entered a car or been this much into one, so he was thinking he had to have stickers all over it to get noticed. Im thinking more along the lines that IF you've got what they like they will like your car!
He told me this morning that he doesn't want to be someones gofer. Go here go there be here be there...etc...
You guys are a HUGE help! There is one company here in town that he likes, we've already been there to see what all they do, they would be the only ones he'd go to with money and ask for a sponsorship, bc look at the money Im about to spend here KWIM?
TY!

you see all these full blown show cars running around and i promise you most of them have been around for a while and know ALOT of people. I am personal friends with a few of them and have seen how things work. You talk to your buddy who just happens to be the rep and you get a sponsorship. You can get some small "full " sponsorships by proposals but most of the all out sponsorships come from who you know and how your car looks...
