Currently, i've had my 04 xB since 04 (before most people got them), and it's got about 113k miles. It looks great with the exception of a few dings/scratches on the exterior. I'm trying to decide now weather to keep it, or trade it in for something else...

Rides a bit bumpy...butI don't mind the ride, but of course I'm the one driving...and some new $60.00 shocks can fix it a bit...

So, how much more and longer do you think I can get out of it, or is now a good time to trade in while I can still get a decent amount for the trade in (about 5500-6000 or so dealer trade in according to kbb.com)

I guess it all depends on at which point you decide to write the car off. I've seen the same engine go over 350K in Echo (synthetic oil every 6K, daily city deliveries).

My 05 is just about to hit 90k soon... and I know that it has surpassed the pint of where it SHOULD be daily driven, but it still is... I know that Ill be hanging onto this car until it is nothing more than a lawn ornament...

NEVER! Its gonna be like those CRX's and 240's and RX 7's. Sell your scion now..... but In 10 years.. evryone is gonna want one, but theyre all gonna be hard to find, in bad condition, or too expensive!

hmm, maybe i'll keep it after all, still not 100% sure either way tho.... maybe a new nav (again) will keep me happy :-D (last one was stolen, this tmie i'll combine it with an alarm and not park overnight in long beach)

saw an echo 3 days ago with 412,000 on the dash on the same 1NZFE block with only one replaced head gasket and that was just for longevity.

take care of the car, and in return the car will take care of you. regular oil changes, switch to synthetics around 150,000miles. right now would be a good idea to do a 50/50 mix of castral GTX and GTX high mileage. this should help a bit on keeping all the seals going right without OVERLY conditioning them with the high mileage oil. after a while, stick to full synthetic like Red Line, Royal Purple or Castral Green synthetics. also, since you live in cali, might as well use 10W-30 oil instead of 5W-30. 5W-30 is meant for colder climates like us northern boys, 10W-30 is much more mild towards colder temps and generally can be used in temps as low as around -20 at startup. also, on higher mileage engines, you should use a higher weight oil to begin with being after the wear and tear on bearings and such starts to increase clearances and oil gaps and all that. higher oil weights will prolong the life of the engine by having higher viscosity to the oil. some say to use 0W-30, it's not wise on a high mileage engine, sure it'll lub quickly on the valve-train but it wont done a good job in the crank case and can pre-maturely increase wear on your piston rod bearings *journal bearings*. 0W-30 is used on performance based engine builds and where the engine will more then likely see rebuilds every 50,000miles.

awesome, thanks clock........good advice and heads up... and sciond, mine does too..BUT i'm only getting about 230-250 per tank for some reason...could be bc I drive 80mph, I dunno....

maybe i'll just pay it off, keep it, and watch and less and less of them are on the road, it's nice to have a classic :-D

My first 04 had 140k on it when I got rid of it. 2 YEARS AGO. No problems at all, other then losing final drive at 64k. I have seen Taxi scions with 300k no mech, problems just beat to heck. The XB I just got has 70 on it and its an 04 so I say it is just how you maintain it and how much you enjoy the XB.

depends on the fuel you use but 80mph does kill the mileage pretty badly. i know that when i'm going about 70 i'm only getting around 25-27mpg. VVT kicks in more after 3,000rpm, the higher the rpm, the more it kicks in and when it does, it's creating more power which means more fuel being consumed. course, in cali you'd have a hard time doing 60-65mph on the freeways... 60mph is speed limit for washington area on the freeways unless it's I-90.

I just broke the 40,000 mile mark (and I'm very proud of myself)...

I sold an Escort I had before that because it failed emissions testing so spectacularly that the gov'ment threatened to take away my license (at only 81,000 miles)...
I sold my Blazer at 131,000 when the "check engine" light had been on for so long that the bulb burned out...
...and I returned a Sonoma with 25,000 miles to Cramax because the Check Engine light came ON the day I bought it.

Like I said, all this talk of 300,000 miles is very reassuring Keep it up, you wonderful people!

I will keep mine forever. I'm planning on getting a low mile used engine/trans to store away for future use if after 300K miles mine dies. IOWs my xB isn't going anywhere but my garage.

Kids mother hasn't worked in 10 yrs went and got cash aid! So long story short the great State of Califonia came after me so I lost everything and had to start over.
And before anyone starts to bash me I have my kids every weekend most Holidays
every vaction I have taken in those same years and still do anybody who has seen me at a show in the past can back that up.
