Default How Much Should This Cost???

Ok I am finally getting all the stuff I wanted to get done on me xA release series 1. I am just trying to make sure that I am getting a fair price, because I rarely do anything to me car besides oil changes. And I am not knowledgeable enough to do this stuff on my own. So here is what I am doing:

Window Tint: basic black. $185.00 for the whole car besides the windshield. I think that is fair enough, and this is the only place I called that had a lifetime guarantee and also a fade guarantee... if it fades, they replace it.

Stereo Installation: I am going to another place to have me new CD player installed. I got the Alpine CDA-9833 from Crutchfield. I will be hooking my iPod up, and I am going to have the connection to that threaded through the cubby hole in the center console. The Alpine deck that I purchased needs to have the power wired directly to the car battery. Also I am getting my entire driver and passenger side doors insulated with Dynamats. I am really tired of my doors rattling like crazy. Next I am getting an LED strip for my car alarm so I have something better to indicate that I have an alarm and to ward off potential thieves. For all that, parts and labor are going to run my nearly 600. The place is a professional place, so I assume that is why they are charging what they are. There is no way in hell I am going to a best buy or circuit city, My car is way to important to have those hacks touch it. And I am willing to pay that for what I am getting.

So is does this sound right? Like I said I do not know enough about this stuff to tell if I am being ripped off. Give me your opinion.

Window tint sounds about right since it's for 7 windows.

However, $600 for the installation is a bit high imo.

Dynamat will only cost around 20-30 bucks per door, and the led strip is only 4 bucks. Do the math and they're charging you +$500 in labor alone. Rip off? maybe.

Also, dynamat will NOT help with the window rattle. It will help lower the road noise and provide better nidbass for your speakers, but that's about it.

Yeah they quted 495 for labor and 100 for parts. It does seem pricey, but I don't know where else to go in the Milwaukee area. The place I am going (Stay Tuned) does have a good rep around the area, and it is one of the few places that I have actually heard of. And like I said, Circut City and Best Buy are not touching my car, regardless of how cheap they are.

And for the door rattle, it isn't the window that rattles, it my door panel. Dynamat should take care of that, right?

Even if they have a good rep, $500 is a bit too much IMO.

Stereo Installation usually runs around $50-80
Wiring it to the battery takes only 5 minutes to do. Same with running the Ipod connection wire to your cubby. Same with the LED light.

The only reasonable price I see is $150, and even then I wouldn't pay that much for it

Dynamat is applied to the actual door, not the door panel. If the panel is rattling, it may be that one of the plastic mounts is broken. Bring it in to the dealer to have them fix it.

Most places where I'm from charge anywhere from $50-75 per hour on installation. You may want to buy one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...757377386&rd=1 and DIY.

Thanks Matt I am going to try Mike at Project Two. I might also give alarmtronics a try because they had installed my alarm and then went smoothly and they didn't seem to be overpriced.

Ok I gotta say thanks again Matt. Mike Kraus no longer works at project 2, he was actually the guy that quoted me 495 for labor at Stay Tuned. I am beginning to think that me and him did not understand one another. Anyhow I gave project 2 a call and they said at most labor would be 150 (probaly cheaper) and with parts it will probally be 200 total. That makes me much happier and I will be going there Friday.. and I may have to get my next Scion from Wilde Toyota now.

Hey Curtis, where are you getting the tint done? I'm gonna get mine done pretty soon, but I haven't even called around for prices or anything...

Hey fugee... I am going to a place called Blackout. It is on Highway 100 in Hales Corners. I really had no idea where to go either, but I rember back when I had my last car (which had been borken into) I had to get a windown replaced and I went to Harmon Auto glass. The peolpe at Harmon recomended Balckout and I know Harmon has a good rep and so I trusted them. Anyway I called Blackout and talked with someone there (I think it was Mike) and he said they were the only place in Milwaukee that gurantees the film will not fade, and if it does they replace it. I called a few other places and got no gurantees from anyone. Also there are only two poeple working there and both have been doing it for 10+ years. If you want to wait until Saturday (when I get mine done) I will post pics and let you know how it went...
