For some odd reason my MPG has gone through the floor. I thought it may be because my intake filter is dirty but it's only been on there for 12,000 miles or so and those K&N's are suppossed to go like 20 or 30,000 between cleaning, aren't they?

Maybe. I would just clean it with each oil change or every other one. Does not hurt much I would think.

If OrAnGeBoX explain of how you figure it out does not make much sense you do this. You take down what your current milage is when you fill the tank full. Then you drive around & the next time you gas up, fill the tank full again. Then also take down how many gallons it took to fill. Now you do some math.

Milage 1 - Milage 2 = Total miles driven (Can also just look at the trip gauge if you reset it when you gased up) Now that you have the total miles driven divide that by the gallons. So a ex: Total driven miles = 300 & gallons = 9. so 300/9=33.33mpg

Write down the mileage your tripometer tells you, then reset the tripometer each time you fill up.

This is what I do...

When I get home I plug in the numbers to my mileage spreadsheet and it calculates everything for me

To be really accurate, you have to keep track of mileage for several tanks of gas. With the narrow and long fill pipe, it is very difficult to fill the tank consistently.

Not to thread jack. Can we get some milage numbers up here? I want to see what xA ppl are getting, so I can compare it to my current car. My current car gets:

Gas Milage
118,109 - 117,755 @ 12.304 = 28.77 mpg
119,338 - 119,090 @ 08.606 = 28.81 mpg
119,609 - 119,338 @ 08.158 = 33.21 mpg
119,857 - 119,609 @ 08.560 = 28.97 mpg
120,043 - 119,857 @ 06.488 = 28.66 mpg
120,287 - 120,043 @ 08.608 = 28.34 mpg
120,515 - 120,287 @ 07.529 = 30.28 mpg
120,780 - 120,515 @ 09.094 = 29.14 mpg
120,960 - 120,780 @ 06.094 = 29.54 mpg
121,086 - 120,960 @ 04.815 = 26.17 mpg
121,326 - 121,086 @ 08.561 = 28.03 mpg
121,625 - 121,326 @ 09.167 = 32.62 mpg

& thats with a 3100cc V6 engine & a 4spd auto

For me? That drop down to 26mpg was a trip where I did 85mph for some time. Also did some off roading at low speeds, so then I was getting some city milage mixed in.

For the month of September, I got an average MPG of 34.7725 and spent a total of 126.91 on gas, having put 2419 total miles on the car and 2347 since I have had it. In there I mixed in putting 89 in three tanks. The MPG actually reflects what was gained from the previous tank to the guy who didn't understand how to do MPG

Mileage / Trip Gal MPG Cost
1. 353 / 281 - 8.893 - 31.59 - 16.00
2. 654 / 301 - 8.665 - 34.74 - 16.97 *89
3. 894 / 240 - 6.417 - 37.40 - 11.35
4. 1145 / 250.7 - 7.280 - 34.44 - 14.26 *89
5. 1488 / 343.3 - 9.514 - 36.08 - 17.50
6. 1740 / 251.9 - 7.440 - 33.86 - 13.83 *89
7. 2084 / 344 - 9.844 - 34.95 - 18.50
8. 2419 / 335.7 - 9.558 - 35.122 - 18.50

Most of my driving is highway driving on Rte 50 in MD. I have also taken the trip home to Philly from 30 miles south of Baltimore 3 times in the car, the first two being the times I filled with 89 and the third being the time when I got 36.08 MPG, so the car seems to do better when going long distance rather than the 25 miles each way I go to work.
