Holy cow essvid, you need your own forum. Sort of like a Dear Ann Landers type of format where forum users can write all of their E/N problems to you, and you can solve their issues with seething commentary.

*golf clap*

HELLOOOO!!! Woman driver here with a baby who is a mother and soon-to-be wife talking...she needs to get a reality check and look at that big picture! You need to smack her upside the head and then just go out and get one.

It's not about her, it's about you and your family and she needs to realize that. Let me talk some sense into this woman!! LOL!!

thanks for all of your input. heh i showed her this post last night. she tried to defend herself, but i think some of the statements made her do some thinking. she still doesnt want me to get it, but said that its my car so i can get whatever i want. she said she still wont drive it or ride in it, but i think that will end up changing. i have to agree with what essvid said, but i have to admit that i am also stubborn and immature at times. anyways im going to try to get financed for it. if they dont give me enough on a trade-in or require more of a down payment then i guess its just fate telling me that i dont need the xB. i figure either way i cant be any worse off than i already am. if i do get financed then all i have left to decide is if i want BOP or BSP.. im kinda leaning twards BSP so i can go JDM ;) and i remember hearing bad things about BOP paint quality.
thanks again

oh and this time instead of calling it a crap astrovan wannabe she called it an SUV for midgets. haha

I didnt even bother to look any further then the first few posts. Your in trouble. It appears that your wife has not yet grown up. To say that she " hates that car!" just is not mature. And you have children?

Here is what i suggest. Find out what you owe on your Honda. Then list it privately to sell. If you trade it, then your just piling on the loan from your Honda, and that would defeat the purpose. Try and sell it for all its worth. Dont take the first offer on it. Ask family to help you make up the difference on the loan ( Honda ). Then go in and see what your Scion Dealer cant do for ya. If your credit score is low, try asking your local banks for an auto loan.

That is, if you can get over the fact that your wife wants something that is just out of your reach right now. Dont get in over your heads, bankruptcy law is changing, and your wont be able to right it all off in the near future like you could in the past. JMO

Yeah youre right, neither one of us is grown up. I am just 23 myself. And our child, well, i HATE saying this because it sounds so bad but she wasnt planned. My wife had some sort of hormonal problem and wasnt supposed to be able to get pregnant.

As far as selling the honda privately.. id LOVE to do that. getting into the honda was a mistake in the first place.. i should have just fixed my integra. heh my parents told me not to do it, but you know how well kids listen to their parents. my only problem with selling the honda is that i owe $15K+ because of my high interest rate, and well the latest generation of Si's are considered to be a flop and have no resale value. i see some with similar mileage going for 11.5-13.5. as far as getting a family member to help out, all of my family is poor so there no way for them to come up with the money. our original plan was to use our income tax refund to make up the difference, but we had a few bills due and some unexpected things come up so we nolonger have enough to make up that difference. i was hoping to use whats left as a down payment on the scion since i see no other way out of the honda. as i said, id really love to just sale the honda and save up some cash to buy an old accord or something so i can get rid of a car payment and high insurance, but i just dont see a way to accomplish this.

as someone posted earlier, it looks like i just need to win the lottery i know its not true, but it seems like all my problems would be solved then.

The key word is "Partnership", and baby makes 3. The xB is a reliable, unique car, and it is what you would like to drive. At some time, your wife will probably need to drive it (her car being repaired for example). I would ask her for some input if she is mature enough to give you input, and not pout. If she pouts, get what you want and can finance. What color would she like best, even though she does not like the style/uniqueness of the xB, there has to be a color she would prefer. I assume that you would still like the xB, even if it was not in your 2 color choices? If color is most important, there are a lot of black cars out there. What is important to you? Hopefully, Peace and Harmony. Hope it works out for both of you.

Here are some good reasons for getting an xB:
  • Good gas mileage. With all factory drivetrain and factory alloy wheels, I regularly get 33 MPG city, 35 MPG highway. When gas prices hit $2.50-$2.75 a gallon this summer, she'll really appreciate the savings.
  • visibility. The seating position and design of the vehicle offers great visibility. Although it appears to be very low, it actually sits higher than many cars.
  • rear seat access. Unlike most sedans, getting access to the rear seats (important with a 4 month old) is extremely easy and has plent of room. Oftentimes the rear wheel well cuts into the lower portion of the rear door making it a tight squeeze (the worst I've seen on a 4 door is the classic Jeep Cherokee)
  • standard cargo room. With all seats in their normal position there is more cargo space behind the rear seat than most regular sized minivans. Certainly enough to do a week's worth of grocery shopping.
  • maximum cargo room. With the rear seats folded down, there is an incredible amount of cargo room. We've taken our "milk truck" to IKEA quite a few times and loaded it up with stuff. It's great to see giggles and snickers fade to dropped jaws as on-lookers see just how much the box can hold.
  • fully-loaded/hassle-free. All of the "options" are included in the base price. Power windows, doorlocks, CD/MP3 player, power mirrors, AC, etc. etc. are all included.
  • unique. You won't need one of those goofy antenna ***** to spot this thing in the mall's parking lot. ;) Life's too busy and serious to not take an opportunity to do something different...and fun.
  • It's NOT!. Going along with it being unique, IT's NOT... a minivan, IT's NOT... an SUV, IT's NOT... a boring economy sedan.

I'm sure that others can come up with even more reasons.

My wife absolutely loves our xB, which is my primary vehicle. And if we hadn't already bought her an '04 Yellow MINI Cooper, I'm sure I'd be handing this over to her.

hmm, I'll be nice
See if she would be willing to look at and test drive one. My opinion of it at first was along those lines, but not as bad, and once I saw them on the lot and took one out for a spin, my mind was totally changed. They rock.

Just my 2 cents

yeah.. once i find time to get my Si all nice and clean im going to try to sale it for within $1000-$1500 of what i owe. after a few weeks if i cant sale it (which will probably happen) then i will take that $1000-$1500 and try to put a down payment on an xB. hopefully theyll have the one i want in stock.. i hate having to wait for things ;)
thanks

Look on some sites to see what your going rate is on your Honda. www.kbb.com ... www.autotrader.com and the like. Try your damndist on selling it privately, if you trade, youll end up in worse condition.

Talk to your local Scion Dealer. You cant hide anything, so dont try. Have him/her make the best deal as possible. Both trade in and payments on the new box. Keep in mind, dont make your payments any higher then you can afford. Yeah, sure you would love to have a new car to ride in, but if you or your wife misses work, or ends up on the un-employment line, youll be ____ out of luck. Dont get in over your head.

You can always just leave your keys in the Honda ...

ive checked out KBB, NADA, edmunds, autotrader, and my dad is a car salesman so ive even seen blackbook. i will probably lose around ~3K on trading the Si. so yeah, not something that i want to do. like you said, i may end up keeping the si. i plan on doing it in that order: 1 try to sale privately, 2 see if scion will give me low interest and good trade-in value, 3 if all else fails i will just put up with the Si until i get rich

My wife didn't like the xB, test drove it, and still didn't like it.
What to do?

She feels the car is too small, too dangerous for me to drive 60 miles back and forth to work everyday. Well, its true that the xB has no side airbags and I may get rock chips easily on the interstate, too.

I asked her about t2B, well, she said whatever...

Default wife hates xb idea

I own a 1988 Toyota 4runner 4x4 5 speed 4cyl with 300,001 miles on it engine has never been rebuilt and little or no rust on her she will turn over every time and because it's made by toyota i don't even carry any tools in it unlike my old car a vw beetle. Do what you have to do cuz everybody hated the XB when it came out but now everybody driving one.

I posted a thread similiar...but in this case my husband hates it! I came back from the dealership all excited, popped in their DVD from the dealership, and he asked which one I was interested in. When I told him the xb, he said THAT UGLY A$$ THING, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT....I THOUGHT YOU WANTED THE SPORTCAR LOOKING ONE! He says it is a "novelty", and I am making a big mistake. We're my feelings hurt? NO
I've done my homework....I've read about 20 hours on the subject, and was most pleased to read on edmunds.com, the editors voted it the "most wanted vehicle for 2005." It was also listed as "Lowest true cost to own for 2005", Rated 8.2 from editors and 9.4 from the people that own them. It was voted "top 10 for cars under $15,000...top 10 for "Most fuel efficient"....and the number one reason to own the xb.....It was voted in the "top 10 hippest vehicle"....yes the xb shares it with the mini cooper, pt cruiser and honda element. At any rate I'm getting a blue one with the spoiler this summer with or without his "approval", since I'm paying for it. Good luck, Liz
