It may just be me but what if it's raining and you cant see through the glass?

I find my rear wipers handy at times. I don't think I would ever take it off.

So what do you do if you can't see behind you?

I like my rear wiper. But for some, the coolness of removing it outweighs the need to see behind.

It doesn't rain that much in SoCal, and when it does my window has never been SO dirty that I couldn't see.

When I know it's pouring outside I'll throw some rainX on the back window and the water sheets right off.

My wiper did a lot more rattling and dripping after a car wash than actual wiping so I shaved it.

Umm, I can see just fine through the rear glass w/o a wiper when it is raining. Afteall, it is a vertical piece of glass...

Anyway:

1) It looks better with it off.
2) It is asier to dry the box since you have less drips to deal with.
3) IMO, it is a completely worthless addition to the box
4) The rear wiper is also a source of window etching - the dirt sits on top of the wiper and is ground into the glass
5) If you dont like not being able to see out the rear glass ( ) keep your wiper. Simple.

no no, it's not that at all. I was just curious to see how people deal with it.

what's this rainx product? there's actually something that helps slide the rain off?

Heathen nailed it!
Yes, I think it definitely looks a lot better, and gives all the advantages listed above, but these wipers really are almost useless. Even brand new, mine just streaked up the back window. I'm not sure if it's just weak tension in the arm, or crappy wiper blades, but they do very little good when needed.
The removal is ultra simple- do a search for more info, including the "plug to buy from Home Depot to fill the resulting hole.
"Rain-X" is a product in a bright yellow bottle you can find at all car parts shops. Its a petroleum-based liquid you rub onto a clean window, and water sheets off it, much like what wax does to your paint. I did this mod right after getting my car last summer, and have never had a problem that has made me regret doing it.
Here's my example:

Smoother look without it. But it does add something to the car. Maybe it helps a little with the rain too. If it wasn't there many would probably spend to add it as a mod.

I can't see out the rear window and I needed a place to mount the camera that just happened to be the same sized hole as what the wiper was.

Rain? What about the outside mirrors? Side windows? Rear wipers are a waste IMO. If they were needed that bad, they would have been on them from day two. Keep the windows clean periodically and vision is not an issue. $.02

I put mine on so it sits vertically and when i do use it it just work in the opposite direction. here's a pic or two.

all ya gotta do is take the motor cover off and switch the plastic piece 180 degree's and then reposition the wiper arm itself.

Ive been on both sides of this fence.

I shaved mine off once i bought the box over 3 years ago. While recently i put it back on cause i was going to sell it. Now that its there, it really doesnt bother me much any longer.

And how do i see out the rear glass, very well, as my rear glass has limo tint on it. Doesnt show dirt that easily through tint. lol

Mine's been off for over a year and not once in that year have I needed it.

The vertical wiper thing looks terrible, IMO.

For the rainy season up here in norcal... It rains ENOUGH to need it but when its not its useless. I have this stupid streak on teh back of my window, liek someone said, sort of grinding the dirt into the window, greaaaat. Well, I might make it vertical, I don't think it looks horrible, and it might help with the dirt settling on top of it. It used to make this squeeky sound when on, but I haven't heard it recently. Other than that I dont mind it. I did take off my emblems and that already makes it look cleaner. I'll look for some of that rain x stuff...

Any suggestions for making that stupid wiper blade mark on my window go away? Besides using window cleaner 3 times... Actually, I might just need to get a clay bar eh?
