Default I'm smelling Freon in my A/C????????

Every morning or every time I start my car and turn on the A/C, there's this smell that only lasted for couple of seconds that smells like Freon.

So far its been two weeks and the A/C still works. Should I be worried about this and take my Box to the dealer for warranty work?

I had the same problem but others on this Forum - as well as the Dealer - said that that is common and happens on many cars. in my case,
I smelled Freon (or the alternate, I forget the name) and even saw it coming from my vents - it looked like a white mist/smoke but it wasn't.

I don't think it's a big issue but it's happened to me only 3-4 times since January when I got my Box. I think if it happens, tell the Dealer that it happened and that it's frequent.

hth,

hmm we don't have freon so it can't be freon you're smelling.

How exactly does freon smell anyway? Do R-12 and R-134a smell the same?

R-12 is hard to find and R-134a will soon be phased out and replaced with some thing else, and the charging system will soon to be 24 volts and the a/c compresser will soon be pulley-less how awsome is that

Is it blowing cool air? I would have the dealership check the charge if you still think you smell refrigerant. If you know someone in the HVAC industry you could have them check it with a detector if you really want get techincal.

R-12 is a big no-no to have, so don't even bother with it. Unless you like the EPA on your case.

Okay, now I notice that my AC is not cold as it use to be. The other weekend before Christmas, it was hot outside and my AC can bearly cool us inside, In fact, I had to roll down the window to get some cooler (but hot) air in. I'm calling the dealer today to see if this is cover (most likey it is)

Well, I took it to the dealer Friday Morning. The tech told me that my evaoprator coils failed and there's a leak in it. They did the dye method and found some of the dye (purple smoke) coming out of my vents. The tech told me that the'l have to dissasimble by dash to get to the evaporator. My car will be reschelued again becuase they don't have a loaner (car) for me to use while my box will be in the shop

BTW it's coverd by the waranty
