Default Incorrect instrument panel - to keep or not to keep?

So here is a pic of my instrument panel (or whatever it's called) on my Auto xB, not a Manual. Apparently my box had a Manual panel installed instead of an Auto panel; so my gears do not show up as well as my O/D light. What do you guys think, should I keep it the way it is or have Toyota replace my instrument panel with the correct one? They said it would be covered under warranty, so there should be no out of pocket expense for me.

To me it looks cleaner without the gears showing, especially at night, and obviously I know when my O/D is off or on.

What do you guys think?

you have 10,039 miles on it already and now you notice the problem??? sounds like it could make it more valuable like a mis-stamped coin.

If it doesn't bother you, don't ask for trouble (letting the dealer's service department take your dash apart is how I define "trouble").

It came that way new? Hard to imagine how that could happen.

I purchased it with just over 8k miles on it back in Feb. The first time I noticed it was about 1 week after purchasing the box. I brought mine in for some minor work to be done, and they let me borrow a new silver box that was also an Auto and I noticed the difference in the panels. They did not know what to say, they kept on going between my box and the other Autos on the lot; like it was hard to tell the difference! Drove me nuts!! Anyways, I finally spoke with a service guy who said it probably was shipped this way from the manufactuer. I agree though, maybe it will give it value over time!

I agree, I hate to get them involved, taking my box for 1-2 days, and with my luck they will probably mess something up!

Mishaps occur in production apparently... I'd definitely hang onto it.

If you bought it used, it makes me suspicious that something happened to it and work had to be done, and that's when the wrong panel was installed. Did you do a VIN search when you bought it? Is it Toyota "certified?" If it's certified and has a clean record, I'd still leave it alone.

Default Panel

Vehicle is not worth more.
It may be only a matter of plugging into existing wiring harness w/new panel.
As long as they do not have to do any major rewiring get it fixed.

Sounds more like someone swapped your auto cluster with a manual one before you got the car. It may have more miles on it than you are aware of. Food for thought.
Unless you were the original owner I'd say it came that way but how will you ever know for sure it did????

^ That was my initial thought... but if it's an '06, I can't see much more than 10K on it.

On new cars with digital diplays, the information is stored on the computer, not in the panel itself to prevent such fraud. If you were to plug in another panel, your milage will show up. My friends xA had the panel replaced because the odometer section was not lighting up anymore and he asked that question, and thats what the service department told him and I.

The vehicle was indeed "Toyota Certified", and the title is clean. I appreciate all the comments, but I think I will be leaving the way it is. I like the look at night - less lights on my dash. I just wish I knew for sure...but then again I was not the original owner, so we'll never know...

I'd like to know how it got through all the inspections and loaded on and off the ship. Then in and out of port. Then off the transport again at the dealership and so on....

Unless for some strange reason there is a manual box driving around with your cluster. Kinda like a joke on the line. They just swapped the 2 out maybe? Someone knows something but no one is fessing up.

Can someone else confirm this? Cause I have heard the opposite.

^^^^I'm curious too because I've heard it from both sides and I don't know who to believe. It would take two people swapping out speedos and cheking to see if their miles stayed the same.
