I’d go with the K&N, a lot of people gripe about them causing a CEL due to the MAF getting some oil on it or some such due to the filter being oiled. The only way this can happen is if you over oil it.
I've had a K&N filter on my car for almost a year, and I've yet to have it cause any problems. I love it because it's reusable until... something happens to it and it gets damaged, which won't happen unless you mishandle it.
And most auto-part stores don't carry a lot of makes unless it's a really popular car, so you'd be better off ordering it online. Try Jegs.com

I love my K&N. I use them in all my vehicles. They are easy to clean and flow air like a SOB. They go for like 40 bucks shipped on-line and well worth the wait. Make sure you get the cleaning and re-oil kit also at like Autozone.

They'll both perform the same. Expect no more than 1-2 hp, if that. But, the biggest plus is you'll never have to buy another air filter again. You can usually find the TRD for less than $50...really no more than the K@N. I'm sure Sparks could help you out.

Whichever one you can find at the best price- both are quality products, any performance difference being imperceptible...
I went with the TRD just to avoid any potential warranty hassles. Unlikely, but it's tough for any bonehead service writer to argue with genuine toyota parts...

they told me when I brought my car in because the headlights shut off the day I bought it, that it came with the wrong alternator on it and it was my fault, thusly wasn't covered under warrant, and would cost more then the car to replace...stupid service jerks

I've been very lucky not having to get any warranty work done. I'd prolly be in jail for hurting service personnel for messing up something on my toaster.
