Default Ledge above glovebox/cd changer install

Ok guys,

I took my xb to the installer who is going to be putting in my system here in Fort Lauderdale (Nick, Liquid Audio) and we both agreed it would be SWEET to mount the pioneer 12 disc cd changer that I just got ABOVE the glove box in that unused area there (the ledge). Trouble is, we need about an inch more depth to make it flush, meaning that we would have to cut...he toook off the glove box door and felt around, and also popped out that little square panel in that space above the box and felt around...the verdict is, we need to investigate if there is anything that would prevent us from fitting that thing in there. There isn't a whole lot of room back there, but we don't need a whole lot...so what I'm asking you all is...yay or nay? (I won't hold anyone accountable for irreparable damage . :D Just looking for some opinions. If we ultimately decide "yay" I will be sure to post plenty of pictures. This install is happening next Monday.

I'm putting in an Avic N1, with the changer (somewhere!), a kicker kx 600.1 driving a kicker comp vr (10') in an audioformz enclosure. Cant wait.

I posted here rather than ICE (again) because that area above the glove box is unique to the XB, I think....anyway, hope Im not out of line.

Thanks for any thoughts,
Matt

The airbag assembly is back there.

The airbag was one of the concerns, but that is actually above the area Im talking about.
When you pop that little cover off, which is above and to the left of the glove box, and stick your finger back there, there are bundles of wires and stuff, but not the airbag mechanism itself, as far as we could tell.

I suggest you take the dash off and look. It's pretty easy, check the navigation retrofit thread in the FAQ section.

Personally, I'd stick it under one of the front seats. If you are set on putting it on the shelf, you might think about having the installer make a panel to flush the changer and make it look like a perfect fit instead of cutting the plastic (plastic is expensive). It may not seem like a big deal now but when you are ready for a change or want to sell the car you don't want to have to deal with it.

That sounds like an idea, too. Would still have to cut a little bit to get into the wires, but I hear what you are saying. I dont think the plug on the end of the changer will fit into the hole where that little cover is above the glove box, but not sure. In any case, it is probably more sensible.

I am gonna put an amp under one seat, and the brain for the avic n1 under the other. Unless I am crazy, the only EASY place left for the changer will be on that ledge...and that isn't so easy. I am not considering mounting it in the trunk, because I am trying to keep all that cargo area useful, which is kinda the point of getting the audioformz enclosure, too. Thanks for the suggestions so far...much appreciated.

Will the changer fit in the glove box? That would be a good place for it.

The glove box would be the BEST place for it, but it is too shallow...its frustrating, because it almost looks like it would fit. Width is ok...but alas....not much you can do for the depth. Even the smaller 6 disc changer won't fit , for that reason. Too #%$#@ deep.

Ok, final idea before I head for dreamland. Take the glove box out and craft the mount for the changer in that space. The glove box just pops out and then you have free reign of that space.
