Default Mileage Improvements

i'm new here to posting, but i've been reading for the past year or so, so HI!

anyways, i'm no newb to tuning cars, etc., but i was wondering what things improve mileage on the xA the most. i was thinking the following:

-ground wire kit (will do myself)
-intake/headers/exhaust (would like to know if the combo will really help mileage out, as long as i stay off the throttle)
-some type of ingnition system, better wires and plugs maybe?

i'm pretty new to the toyota world, so i don't know jack about these engines besides what i've read here. any info would be appreciated though, thanks in advance,

Tom

intake, headers, exhaust should improve gas mileage. Just remember to not have a heavy foot and stay off the throttle.

anyone actually do any of the above things and able to report a difference? i know if the grounding system is not adequate, it should help some, and so should I/H/E as long as you're not beating around in it

also, if anyone has the full I/H/E with ground wires, and has done a dyno w/AF, could you post it, or link me to the chart? i'd like to know if these cars run rich from the factory or not, seems like a 1.5 in such a small car could easily get better mileage numbers if you ask me

I was getting 31-35 mpg consistantly. Iadded a grounding kit, intake, and axel back exhaust, now get 35-38. This is with 95% highway driving average speed of 70.

I high of 42 on two different tanks, BUT never drove over 65 and kept the rpm's under 3200.

I've done the Intake, Exhaust and Groundwire kit and get 34-37 mph. Like it's been said before. . .Mind your right foot and you'll be fine!

easier say than done i keep having the feeling that i'm not accelerating fast enough in the xA, i'm so used to driving stronger cars that it's so hard to keep my foot from flooring the pedal (instictively you know)

that's a pretty good improvement if you ask me! thanks for the info, as it's nice to know from real life experience how certain modifications affect a certain car! what intake and axle back did you go with, and did you do the grounding kit yourself, if not, which kit did you use?

i'm trying to figure out how much extra i'll spend to get there

one of the most improvements is making your car lighter weight
carbonfiber front hood, plastic side windows not glass, fiberglass side bumpers & rear bumper, lighter wheels
this wil improve mpg and performance

That's the thing about the xA...in the higher gears (3+) if it's WOT or 1/2 throttle you'll still get the same acceleration. I just wish cruising at 75 didn't mean I had to rev to 4200

that's a thought too. since i'd be getting black, a c/f hood would work, as well as light weight wheels (which i don't care what they look like), going with plastic windows would negate the price difference in mileage vs. $ spent to improve mileage, well i guess almost all of this stuff would.

question, since the cars can be equipeed with AM intakes and exhaust, etc., i assume the sensors and PCM are pre-tuned to adjust for this. has this been discussed previously amongst owners? if so, making these improvements won't lean it out to the point where long term reliability could be affected would they? i assume not, but don't know if it's been addressed before. thanks,

Vita

if you really got the money do a port and polish job intake and exhust ports of the head and maybe slightly larger valves (i could be wrong on that one)

I never thought I'd see people complain that a 30+ mpg car is not fuel-efficient enough.
