Default monitor in center console?

I know this has been discussed before, but I was unable to find it again. I also realize this should be in ICE, but no one ever replies to me.

What size LCD screen will fit in the space where the headunit goes? Also, Has anyone installed there head unit in the sunglass cubby? Any sugestion on how to go about that?

as long as its a single din or dual din you can replace the stock head unit with it. It doesnt matter what size. There are 7" screens that fit in a single din.

Are you talking flip out or custom mount?

I believe, though may be wrong, that some people have custom fit monitors up to 10" in there, though most are 7", I think.

Depends on how much work you wanna do.

I baught this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...PcY_BID_Stores

I payed $200 for it tho but if you take it apart, and make a lil custom face, you can make it work. The one i got does like 800x400px but it will convert all formats to it..... looks SHARP when hooked to a comp, damn good grafix for what it is, the touch screen is even better, still found i needed a small wireless keyboard for windows crashs, but so be it. Havent hooked up RCA up yet but from what i hear, looks just as good!. Nice view angle, could be better up and down (for when folding seats back and trying to watch from the backseats ) but nice buy. I even relocated the infrared so the remote for the screen works too! I just mount my laptop under the pass seat and works great!

All and all, worth the $200 and 2 hours to fab up. Everyone's jaw drops when i pull it off a movie and start playing NFS UNderground

I will post pics tonight... I have the Pioneer P5000MP in dash DVD player and a Xenarc 7" TSV (USB touch screen with VGA input and RCA composite)... the setup rocks... great sub control and the stock speakers are working fine for now... my CPU is in my den being reworked nightly until the GPS is ready... XM tuner on the way...

check out www.mp3car.com for information.

ok... here's the pics I promised... sorry for quality, #1 camera phone... #2 daytime...

the corner brightness is only due to my sharp angle of the photo, the screen is even from side to side... we just watched Stepford Wives on the way home from Keystone (ski resort)

Deck is the Pioneer DVH-P5000MP... controls XM, has real AUX in as an option, has dual video out, so you can have radio on up front and only the video on the rear screen... it has a separate set of audio outputs for going to IR or RF headphones... sound quality totally kicks the stock deck's butt... it has crossover built in that allows for variable frequencies and gain for the sub only, also there is a high pass crossover for the full range speakers (so you don't overwork your other speakers, leave that to the sub)... IR remote... plays MP3s, DVD and VideoCD (so in order that's MPEG3 audio, MPEG2 video and MPEG1 video)... it even has a tv tuner option... they make a true 5.1 decoder that can hook to this unit, as it is it just decodes the 5.1 down to stereo (similar to your stereo TV)... less than $400 NEW on ebay...

Screen is Xenarc 7" TSV, bought from mp3car.com, it is a USB touchscreen which can totally replace the need for a mouse... it has three video inputs - 1 VGA and 2 RCA type composite video connectors... there is an option to have the screen come on automatically whenever a videosource is supplied... there is also an option to allow the second RCA connector to override the current input whenever a signal is detected, this is designed with the backup camera in mind - in this scenario the screen would return to previous setting after you shifted from reverse... screen is bright, but glare is an issue with EVERY SCREEN... so tinted windows are in the near future... this screen is 100X better than my previous screen... this screen is 480x800, which is almost the exact specs of EDTV(480P or 480x848 progressive) (one notch below HDTV - 720P or 720x1280 progressive)... any of the $100 or 200 screens on ebay, etc are the standard 234x480, so they have less than 1/3 the resolution... this is probably fine for all games and movies, but text is not legible unless you BLOW IT UP... as a side note, nobody makes a 234x1440 screen, they are counting every pixel across, but a true pixel is capable of red, green and blue... so if you take 1440 and divide by three you get the 480... my screen was $425 NEW from mp3car.com...

I hope this helps... any questions??

How do you like that unit. I was thinking of buying it. How much did you pay for it and where did you get it?

My only questions, I suppose, are:
1. Was it difficult mounting the screen in the center console?
2. How did you mount it in there?
3. Does the wiring harness for the head unit make it down to the cubby easily?
4. How did you mount the headunit in the cubby?

1... that's a work in progress, but I picked up some ABS plastic from a local supply house (found in yellow pages), was about $12 for two square feet... I also got some epoxy that he recommended... I am going to recess the screen in the hole about 3/4" to 1"... for shadow casting purposes, in direct sunlight you cannot see the screen at all... (to get a screen that is visible would be closer to $2000 for a 1200 nit screen)

2... see #1

3... I used the pioneer wiring harness and picked up a Toyota adapter from BestBuy, so I did all the wiring in my den, and just went out and plugged it all in... the sum of the Toyota wiring adapter and the pioneer wiring was plenty to "snake" down to the pocket location... also I need a antenna extension (like $3 at BestBuy)...

4... I used the cubby hole itself, I just lopped off the last few inches... behind where that pocket is there is a piece of plastic that I trimmed away using a Rotozip bit in my dremel...

there is tons of wire, it takes some caressing to keep it all neat... as of now I have the XM Direct tuner boxes behind the screen... I will post more pics as I have time to continue the work... it snowed about 5" last night in Breckenridge and we ended up just staying the night... so instead of working on my car I snowboarded all day...

one thing too look out for..... Depending on it, you may have to drill vent holes in the cubby to keep the headunit cool..... Mine on long trips teds to heat up and starts to skip (3 year old pioneer, so not saying much) but i do know the CDs now come out (after hour or so of play) they come out BURNING hot. So i need to go back in and drill these holes. You may or maynot need there.... Just FYI-ing

not mine... the P5000MP has a small CPU type fan on the back... so my dremeling had to clear that air path... but actually the fan was hitting that piece... when dvd's come out they are normal temperature... we just watched two movies back to back with no problem...

the only issue that I have run across is the glare... tinted windows are in the near future... and colorado tint laws allow for some seriously dark tint...
