hmm, that sounds semi-usefull, i tried to do the same; but the trade off of taking up that space to put my air ride equp. inside wasnt equal; still more space underneath... i'd like to see the kit for this though
i think i would put my spare underneath... more cargo room is always appreciated, then maybe i can get the JDM cargo floors in the back so its flush with the rear hatch...

I think I am going to try to engineer something that will work good. I have been putting a lot of thought into this the last few days and it can't be too hard. The only thing is going to be getting the spare back under there when you get the original tire fixed. Most trucks have a cable and crank to help you lift the tire back up. This is going to have to be a swing down type of bracket where a bar cradles the tire from underneath and hinged on one side. This will allow you to "swing" the tire back up into place and then lock it or latch it secure. I am wondering how much room we need to get the tire in ad out from under there. My xB is lowered, but only an inch, so I think it'll be enough room, but some of the lower ones may have a problem.
If I can come up with a reletively simple and easy way, I may make a few and sell them. There seems to be a market for it. Anyone interested?
Let me get on it and I'll build a prototype and post pics. Then we will see how it goes and maybe make some more!

A few peeps have had their spare tires under their xBs since at least late 2003. They just used a long bot that was bolted thru the floor. Of course some reinforcing is needed above and below the factory sheetmetal.
The only thing would be that the tire you take off (the flat) would have to go in the back of the car (if not the OEM tire/wheel) because I don't think there is enough room for a 17"or bigger tire underneath due to the height problems. But I never put a flat back where a spare goes anyway...Iusually take it to get it fixed ASAP and who wants to mount it back where the spare would go and do twice the work?

see im thinking of moving my spare a different way...since im gonna do a full size spare im gonna rig up a swing away spare like on SUV's...but if i cant get that one to work im gonna put the spare on the roof
I understand that Frankenscion...It is just a thought. I am a certified welder and a pretty good metal fabricator. I would powdercoat it for appearance and corrosion. Materials wouldn't be very expensive and my labor is non existant meaning I wouldn't charge much over the price of materials.
Here's the thing though...although I have a good head on my shoulders and am good with making things work, any input would always be a great help, such as the latching system, easy use, etc. I am going to try do make to where you wouldn't have to A. put the car on a lift to install. B. no fab work required to mount it. C. easy for the DIY'er could easily install it. Let's put our heads together on this!
