slipknot, there's a net that Scion provides w/ the car for putting your flat tire. But I'm like you, I take to get fixed at the earliest convienence.

Has anyone else noticed the plastic "plug" underneath the carpet in the back. There's a few inches of 'wasted' space when you take it out.

isn't that the drain your talking about?

i'm surprised the stereo crowd hasn't cut that spare tire hole out and made a box hanging below the xB. there is ALOT of room...just not alot for the spare tire due to its length

Actually my VMFIC has done that. He was featured ride here last month. He has 2 JL Audio W7's sunk down where you can't even see them unless he wants you to. But you will feel them. :D

There are three holes in there, and IIRC two drain plugs. I'm pretty sure the holes are there to attach some piece emissions equiptment to the underside (can't remember what it is called off the top of my head).

I still can't figure out why they either (a) did not make it deep enough for the spare tire or (b) just left it flat. I'm guessing it's where some of the drivetrain stuff goes in the AWD bB...

Well, I think I am going to give up. I just took another look under there. I was wanting to do this WITHOUT moving that charcoal box thingy underneath, but after looking at it, it will have to be moved...but where? Anyway, thanks for the responses. I will try to do it after I can move the "black box" somewhere.

Hey slipknot, I moved mine a tad to get my center exit exhaust under there.

I'll explain more in detail when I see you next week.

Hey guys,
I was originally thinking about moving the spare tire under the box, but after seeing the canister under there, had second thoughts.

Now I think I'm going to remove the big piece of plastic in the middle of the cargo area and mount the spare in there. That should give me a couple more inches of space.

I'm also planning to cut off the old mount that the spare tire screwed into which will allow me to flip the tire over.

The plan from there is to fiberglass a new cargo space in place of where all the foam used to be including going down into the middle of the spare to use all available space.

Any thoughts? Has anyone tried this already?

I have been thinking about taking it out all together? Some new cars are now using run-flat tires or are simply giving you a small (puncture kit) instead of a spare.I know this would not help if your tire came off the rim,but it would be safer than jacking up the vehicle. All you would need is a can of Fix-a-flat to fill the tire after finding and repairing the hole. Any opinions?

um, you dont need to fix the hole if you have fix a flat. fix a flat "fixes" a flat tire but throws the balance way way off. but if you have fix-a-flat, i see no need for a spare.

ive had tires get punctured on the side at an angle where it couldnt just be patched.....now I do not know if fix-a-flat will work with that or not.
