43 mpg is what I got on the 260-mile return trip from Exposed 06 to Louisville, holding 60 mph on I-71.
37 mpg is what I got going to Exposed 06 on US 42, a 2-lane road though many small towns, maintaining 55-60 mph..
35 mpg is what I get in daily driving around town.

Come ride with me and I'll show you how it's done. It may require recalibration of your PCU.

I have 5000 miles on the car now, fill up every 250 miles or so, print the gas ticket, write the speedo miles and the odometer miles on it, use a calculator to get the mpg on the spot, save all the tickets, and periodically enter the data in a spreadsheet.

I'm very happy with my box. I drive on the parkway in NJ doing 70-75 twice a week. Around town I go easy on the box. I average 33mpg on my car. Plus I run the AC.

Like I said this thread is just to see what are the proven ways to increase mpg.

The PCU can do even better than cruise control. On hills the cruise control increases throttle to maintain speed. It is more economical to hold the throttle steady and let the speed drop.

You don't have to be a real Grandma with a handicapped tag. In the suburbs, light throttle is adequate to keep up with the main traffic flow. On Interstate trips, 60 mph is what many vehicles in the slow lane are doing.

In NJ if I go 60 or 65 on the parkway I will get run over. I have to go over 70 in the slow lane. I also live down near the shore so on the weekends we get the "BENNY'S " In case you dont know what BENNYS are their people from the city. BENNY ususally stands for

BROOKLYN
EDISON
NEWARK
NEW YORK
YONKERS

These names usuall vary depending upon who you talk to. Most people from NJ will varify this.

Id rather pay a bit more than drive only 60 on the Hwy... I'd fall asleep driving like granny all the time... Life is too short.. Live a little and zip around... I still get 32 mpg and have some FUN doing it...
I use the cruise control... I dont give a crap if it accels up a hill or not... It's better than having your right leg go numb on a long trip. I also like to cruise at 80 or so... again to stay awake and get to the party before it ends... Geezzz... get a life

06 manual..... 5000 miles, own 2 months now. LOVE it! i am getting between 37-40 miles per gallon! was really surprised, after reading all the posts. I do not speed, and most driving is country roads, between 45-60 MPH.
maybe i got lucky......i easily get 380 miles on a tank, and when filling up it usually takes less than 10 gallons to fill....

I have been getting 32.3 mpg until summer hit in Phoenix, now getting 31.4 because of the a/c.

And there you have it in a nutshell. Mileage is related to lifestyle. Don't be a low life just to get high mpg.

Is is just me, or do you notice that since gas got expensive more people are doing 65 on the highway?

Used to be 70 was slow. Now doing 65 I have company in the right hand lane.

I have a kid who's going to be driving really soon. I have to set a good example if I want him to behave with his license.

He lets me know if I'm speeding anywhere!

I never said low life... I said get a life. I like cars and I like to drive.. My point is that you can still drive normally and have a little fun doing it... and you will still get high mileage per gallon... Hell.. I even get 30 mpg in my Z06 on the Hwy.... and thats with some good acceleration getting up to speed...

Like, drop that mileage and get a life.
Life is better at 30 mpg than 40 mpg.
No disagreement there.

I have a hard time believing that premium fuel would help with mileage. Even if it would, you would never come out on top because premium costs substantially more than regular. You could argue that it could produce better mileage but it would never be cheaper.

premium cost a few dollars more per fill up. not that much more in reality. i used to think it was hidseously too much but not so much latey. i pop premium in every now and again and i don't notice a mileage increase but it does seem to run smoother and have a minuscule amount more power.

Honestly, it all comes down to driving style. My old corolla used to get better than EPA mileage at times during the summer months.

My first tank on my 06 auto got me 28 MPG.. not too bad considering I had the A/C on and half of it was city driving.

I was refering to Interstate i-71 the length of Ohio, where I got 43 mpg holding 60 mph in the company of many vehicles in the right lane.
