need help maintenance required light
i've had my 06 xb for about a year and a half now and my maintenance required light stays on. i've looked it up in the owners manual and it says to change my oil. the last time i got it changed was the end of october so i figured that this would fix the problem so i got it changed only to find out that it's still on. i'm pretty baffled on this and any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance.
There is a reset procedure that needs to be done once the maintenance has been completed. The shop should have done that when they completed the oil change. The procedure for my 2008 xD is as follows. Trying this on your xB certainly won't hurt anything. Hopefully an xB owner has done the one for your vehicle and will post that soon.
1. Turn on the ignition switch.
2. Use the "Mode" button to select "Trip A".
3. Turn off the ignition switch.
4. While continually holding down the "Mode" button, turn the ignition switch on, keep holding the "Mode" button down.
5. The LCD display should do a count down showing 5 then 4, 3, 2 and finally 1 dashes.
6. Release the "Mode" button.
7. The LCD display should show "000000" for 1 second and the "maintenance required light" should go out.
8. Turn the ignition off, you're done.

Yes, ^^^^ what he said.... that is it. I remembered it incorrectlly:
Just changing the oil and filter will not cause the maint light to go out. You have to remember to reset it each time that you do an oil change.
1. Turn key on and hold the trip meter button in. Continue to press the trip button...
2. Turn the key off. Continue to hold button in.....
3. Turn key back on. Keep holding that button in. You will see 5 dashes. Wait five seconds for all 5 dashes to appear (or disappear) for 5000 mile 'maintenance required' warning. Each dask is 1000 miles, so if you want a warning at 3000 miles, hold button for 3 seconds or 3 dashes, let go and you are done.
However.....
If you don't know this, than you better check your CABIN AIR FILTER TRAY behind your dash. Scion does not provide one. Sometimes called a pollen filter, it will be dirty after 15,000 miles. It keeps all that dust from accumulating on your dash.
See TECH thread called 'Fabricate your own CABIN AIR FILTER' and see photos of how to pop off your glovebox to access tray. Do not pay $28 at the dealer, any parts store will have it for $12, or make one yourself and save big.
Change your own oil to avoid problems.

^ Here's the thing about the DIY cabin filter. You need to cut it down so it isn't as thick. I had one that I made from a AC filter for a while, I just replaced it with a Toyota filter and my heat is working so much better. The filter Toyota provides gives you filtering with very little resistance. For the year and a half or whatever it takes to get dirty, it's worth it for me to just drop the coin on it.
