Default new 2006 xb buyer, need peformance & accessory advice

hi everyone,

i am finally able to get a new car and can't wait for my new scion xb. i was hoping for some advice.

i've read about the poor acceleration and i'm a bit concerned since i live in some steep hills. what can i do to improve it? also, i'm not a hands on girl when it comes to cars, if it is an after market product, any recommendations for installers in los angeles?

what are your thoughts about the spoiler? does it improve performance?is it worth the $ ?

do you recommend the front strut tie bar or the shocks?

has anyone gotten the yakima rack installed? i was thinking about getting one for my 9'6" long board, is it worth it? is it something i can decide to get later or will it be more expensive?

thanks for your help!!

You can get everything later. Spoiler is for appearance only. I would try driving it up those hills before worrying too much about it. You can always add an intake/header/exhaust later if you think it is needed.

I have an 06 manual and I just got done with a 400 mile road trip that had an elevation gain of about 5000 ft and the xB had no trouble with it. That with a 5 speed though...which allows you to downshift for more power/higher rpms.

Yakima rack I just installed last weekend. The base setup will be about $200 shipped from Therackwarehouse.com.

I paid an additional $100 for the Basketcase and net and I'm waiting for my Strap Thang board straps and Dakine rack pads to come in. Even with the rack I still got 32 mpg. easy to install:

As for the suspension and wing: I love the look the wing provides...I'll be buying it someday. I love the stock suspension on the xB. It rivals that of the suspension on my Civic with extensive mods.

Hope that helps.

I just got my 2006 xb 5mt last week and have only put 150 miles on it since. I also heard a lot about these cars not having enough power, but Im very pleased with how it drives. No problems at all going up hills or getting onto the highway. My other car is a 350HP WRX and dont feel like the xb has any difference in power when driving around casually. I recommend driving your box around for a while to see how you like it before you spend a bunch of money on go-fast parts.

Good advice... its not a fast car and will never be one... It's fine right out of the box! It's more than adequate for normal drives... You want to race... buy something else

I had the same concerns about acceleration... that is until I drove it. It has plenty of around town and highway power. Ours is an automatic. Besides, there are power mods if you need them. Drive it for a while before you soup it up.

I like the spoiler, looks cool. Will be getting one too.

I don't know about everyone else but I think the Box makes great use of that neck braking 108hp I drove up to the mnts and I had no prob going up it. Just have to learn to milk those high revs
