Default NEW INFO regarding Structural problems-Webasto PANORAMIC roo

Hey guys,

Just wanted to put this out there

I got off the phone earlier today with Benefit Auto in Rhode Island ... they install all the webasto models. When i brought up the issue of the xB and the panoramic roof and the problems xb owners were having

they said they knew of this since they do all the roof jobs for FOX SCION and WEBASTO has just released a special bracket to fix this problem

so if you are still interested in this roof... its still an option

just thought i would share the info

Tom

I think it was just the panoramic because it was so large.

as stated above.. it was the panoramic roof inparticular that was having issues with the structure of the roof ...webasto stopped offering it for the xB for a little bit.
But has just released a bracket to remedy the issue

im going to get mine installed Tuesday

Default Sunroofs

Anyone already have the Webasto panoramic? I'd like to know about wind noise because it seems like it would create a decent amount of noise at hwy speeds. I would also love to see some pics cause the website doesn't really do justice. I'm very interested in gettin the roof and I'm weighing the options.
Thanks

Default wind noise...

Well, I do not know about the xB ragtop, but I have a 59 vw beetle with a huge factory rag, and the wind noise is near undetectable....

If the sunroof simply replaces an area of sheet metal it probably doesn't pose a problem. However, large sunroofs require removal of structural members from the roof structure, which requires that auxilary structure be added to keep the load path across the vehicle's roof.

The roof is an integral part of a modern car's chassis structure. You can't just hack chunks of it off like in the old days!

Regarding the VW factory rag top, it is well known that the VW had one of the best-engineered factory ragtops and convertable tops. part of this was because of the convenient curved shape of the VW bug. It's a lot harder to design a quiet and waterproof rag top for a flat roof like that on an xB.
