Default Newb Question, Do XBs Have 2 Air Filters?

New guy here, just picked up an 06 XB. I was checking the air filter today and noticed that there seems to be another filter element located on top of the inside of the air box. I noticed it looked a little dirty so I would like to know if it can be replaced or removed for cleaning? What is it for? Do alot of guys take it out for performance? Thanks.

Default Let it breathe......

Hey new guy....

Yes, Scion added a small breather filter to the top of the stock air box.
Not on the 05 XB's, it helps with emmissions. It can be cleaned or replaced. Many threads on this, search for '06 xb air box' or 'PVC'.

There is a third filter in our boxes. A CABIN AIR FILTER that is in the tray behind the glove box. Scion does not provide a filter, so your tray is empty unless a Scion Lifer owened your box. See the TECH section for a thread called 'Fabricate your own CABIN AIR FILTER'. See photos of how to pop off the glove box to access tray. Often called a pollen filter, it keeps dust from building up on the dash.
Scion filter = $22
Filter from parts store = $12
Make some yourself = $6.

Thanks, I did a search and found out its a charcoal filter used for emssions. But, most if not all of the threads said that the filter is held in with plastic rivets and cannot be changed out. Is this true?
