Default Past RWD xBers

For the people who used to drive RWD cars/trucks how much different is it to switch to the box being FWD. Reason for asking is thats pretty much all Ive ever driven is RWD and when I get in my friends FWD (civic, 200sx) it feels a lot different. So is it a lot different or pretty easy to get used to?

All I ever drove before I got my box was RWD. It wasn't difficult at all to get used to.

Same here. All I ever drove before my Box was RWD...Honestly the only difference I have felt between both has been during snow time....The Box handles better than the RWD cars I have had...regardless of the box having TRAC control.....

Most the difference will come when you push a FWD car close to its limits, you'll notice the understeer (the front end will "push" out of the desired line) as opposed to the oversteer you'll get with RWD (where the back end can loose grip and slide out on you). I've owned both, and it only takes about two seconds to make the transition.
I just wish they'd put out an AWD Xb. That would kick all kinds of @ss!!

although rwd was great. i like the fwd setup. to me it feels like the car is a little more agile. of course though. you miss out on the tru drifting and nice rear wheel burn outs.

I prefer front wheel. They also say that it is safe in bad conditions

Given the choice I prefer RWD. I like having control over where I'm going should I lose traction to the wheels putting power to the ground. FWD you lose traction, you lose steering. RWD you lose traction, it gets squirrley but you can still point the car where you need it to go. Just my preference, and I have both.

The only cool thing about FWD cars is they are pretty forgivable when pushed to the limits. Must of the time the front will plow (understeer), which is easily corrected. RWD (Mustangs in particular) have a tendency to snap oversteer when pushed to the ragged edge. This unforgivable nature of the Mustang can really ruin your day if you aren't ready, and this is one of the reasons you see Mustangs wrapped around telephone poles.

Of course there are exceptions. My old Focus use to get tailhappy (oversteer) on command with no rear interior, large rear swaybar, and coilovers. That car was fun as hell to drive past the ragged edge...I'm almost regretting getting rid of that car.

Thanks for all the comments. Yea thats what I noticed about FWD cars is when I started to get higher rpms I was like what the hell is thing not steering right. I was only used to RWD cars/truck and mostly where I pointed it would go unless shifting hard or rain then it gets tricky. Well either way Ill get used to just cant wait now! thanks again.

That's mainly because of the Mustang's horrible solid axle rear suspension. RWD's with multilink independent rear suspensions give you slightly more warning before reversing direction.

I've only driven the xB on a test drive, and it did handle well. It turned when I wanted it to, but I felt like I could turn it upside down before I could toss out the rear end.

It is a funky car, but oh my painful goodness it is horribly, awfully and offensively slow. I was short shifting (it had about 35 miles on the clock). The salesman said there was more up top, so I took it to redline. Slightly more noise, no noticeable power.

Sometimes I like to drive my wife's Civic for a couple of days so that my 240SX feels fast when I go back to it. The brief test drive in the xB made the Civic feel like a monster.

That said, I'll still probably pick one up next month. It's not about speed with the xB. The salesman claimed to have had one to 115. I suspect he found a very long, steep downhill run.

In stock configuration it is a pretty horrid setup. However a properly setup 3-link 8.8 live rear axle equipped Mustang will run circles around an IRS Mustang. ;)
