Default Penske Toyota denied me a copy of my personal information...

I just returned from Penske Toyota in Downey, i was there to see if they had an Xa that i can test drive and to see how much it would cost me.. To make a long story short i wanted a copy of the personal information they had written down, on a consultation paper, from me but they refused to make a copy of it. They said that they couldn't do that. I had the information in my hands and the salesman just ****** it from me, right out of my hands he got all frustrated that i didn't want the car they had, he even walked away to cool off or something. Nice at first but then he showed his true colors, very rude.

The guy was also talking crap about Cerritos Toyota and how they rip off people and that they run a dirty business. Made me laugh after the experience i had with him.

So basically i'm asking anybody that is knowledgeable ( maybe a car sales men) about if these people are allowed or not allowed to do give a copy of to me. The manager said he was gonna shred it, but i just wanted a copy just so i can have it on record just in case.

Should i report them to the better business bereau?

I'm never going to Penske again..

contact the BBB & also find out who the owner (not the mgr., asst. mgr., salesman, or cleaning guy) is and contact him. if you weren't purchasing a car then you should have been able to take the original or if they said they were going to shred it, they should have done it right there in front of you. tell the owner that you want that paper or at least want it destroyed and tell him that due to this experience with his employees, you are now going to a dealer that appreciates it's customers !!!!

Laws from Washington (not the state): Read section 2 and 3. In this case you are a consumer and if I read this section correct since there was no sale they will not give you a privacy notice. Privacy notice will allow you to obtain the information that they have. If the process did go further like you are seating and signing off forms and such, they must provide a privacy notice (via mail) so you'll know what information they collected. Just my guess per the info below. But your local laws may vary and may want to google "California Privacy Rule" or California or Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act."

In regards to the salesman. He is rather rude. Go find another dealer. Not sure how far Downey is from where Longo Scion is (E.C. reppin' here) but I've heard good stuff from them...well it seems that way. Longo is owned by Penske too...

On the BBB website it saids to bring my concerns to the attention of the owner or manager prior to filing a complaint and since I talked to the manager already and was not satisfied , I really don't feel I need to talk to the owner for the time being, it's a go... I'll try to contact the the owner within the next few days..

*filing complaint*

Okay so i just filed the complaint. The funny thing is on the website it saids "Please allow up to thirty days to hear from the Bureau regarding your complaint." Wow, i might have to wait a whole month, hopefully that's not gonna be the case.

Thanks for the help guys. I may consider going to Longo but first i have to find out where it's located but then again it's owned by Penske and from my recent experience with his employees... i don't know

DO NOT go to another dealer that is owned by the same person/company. that defeats the purpose of going somewhere else if the same person is ultimately getting your money/buisness. the reason for speaking with the owner instead of just the manager is ultimately the manager gets paid, whether or not you make this purchase, it is the owner who stands to lose out. if i were you, i would go and speak to the owner and tell him/her that not only are you going elsewhere but that you were considering going to 'longo' until you found out he/she/they owned it also and that you were going to make sure that wherever you made your purchase was not owned by penske. maybe you'll get their attention or maybe not, but you'll never know unless you try. maybe there will be something 'extra' thrown in for you if the owner sees your point of view and can convince you to make the purchase with them. and be sure to tell the owner that you filed a complaint with the BBB.
