So it seems that I have a choice in license plates. I've decided not to go for the US Coast Guard plates because they read "VETERAN" at the bottom, and I think that is disrespectful to combat veterans. However, I can get one of three different Alaska plates listed on this website:

Now, what should I make my plates say? It must be between 2 and 6 characters, with only letters, numbers, and spaces. Some thoughts already:

where can i get a uscg plate? is that only in AK?

 

You can get them in California, as well. I did some looking around for you, and there is lots of information on the state's web site here: http://www.cdva.ca.gov/service/plates.asp. You will have to fill out an application and pay a fee, but you can get the USCG shield on your custom or sequential plates -- for a fee. Good luck!
