Default Please help me with buying a used 2006 xB

I'm looking at an xB with about 20,000 miles. This will be my first car, so I'm a bit nervous about buying one, nervous that it will die a month after I start driving it. The warranty looks good on this model, one of the reasons I chose it. My questions is, assuming its still under warranty and all, what are the things I need to be worried about? The dealer seems a bit less than trustworthy, so I'm not looking to him for advice. Should I feel comfortable with the Toyota warranty as long as the car drives fine? Any and all help is appreciated, have a good one all.

3yr/36k mile bumper to bumper. So you'll still have some coverage. And the powertrain is even longer (5yr/50k?).

These cars are proven reliable, low cost to own, (based on echo), will hold its value, is a blast to drive, gets great gas mileage.....don't do it!!!

I bought mine which included the standard warranty, of course, but because it was a Certified Used Toyota, I got the 100k Mile Warranty as well. Mine had about 8k on it when I purchased it back in Feb. of this year. If you are purchasing from a Toyota dealership see if they offer the Certified Used Warranty.

I've ridden in the xB, but not the tC. how is the room in the tC, the xB is decieving thinking that it is not roomy when it is quite roomy.

Yup, the xB is very roomy. I am 6'2" and my dad is 6'3" - he sits behind me in the backseat with plenty of leg room, while I am all the way back in my driver's seat.

I would find out about the previous owner, and look for evidence of mods. The car is basically reliable, and the Toyota warranty is good, but the history of the car is the most critical factor. If the PO modded it, drove the life out of it, perhaps caused damage, and removed the mods, you will experience less reliability and more warranty. Only buy a used xB whose history you feel good about.
If you can't find out what the PO was like, don't trust the dealer, and can't get an independent inspection for traces of mods, then you might want to keep looking.

I would be looking for a car that was always stock and not one that had been returned to stock after modding. I would really be afraid of any audio that was torn out of the car as you never know how it was wired. You basically will have a 16,000 mile warranty so you should be ok.

Too true. If someone modded then returned to stock, there may be a lot of stuff messed up. I'd also be concerned about the amount of clutch wear if you're looking at a manual. Some have said it's only good for about 30,000 miles.

Take it to an independent mechanic for a thorough going-over. It'll be the best $100 bucks you'll spend. If the dealer isn't willing to let you do this, walk away.

A well-maintained Scion will last a long, long time. I did a BUNCH of research before I bought my xB, and by almost every report and measure, it's one of the most reliable cars on the road -- IF it's been taken care of.

I'm 6' 4" 315, and room is one of the reasons I bought the car. I fit just fine, even in the back seats, with room to spare. Don't worry about room.

EDIT: Whoops, you were asking about a tC, and I was talking about an xB. Sorry.
