they are they did a study here in Charlotte that since they put them up they have had a tremendous growth of intersection accidents,,rear end collisions etc.....
not my opinion just the results of a study......it was all over the news here
the whole problem here is not the Red Light Cameras it's the people's driving habits...

~wC
agreed except they created a phobia that caused collisions......not studies though on whether they prevented any....

Default OMG 34.1 MPG

I beat the EPA estimate! On the Fairfax County Parkway, 50 is the speed limit, many traffic lights. I got 34.1 miles per gallon, by best so far.
Once you break the EPA estimate, you are a happy man.

Default Gas Mileage

I consistently get 30 mpg when I calculate my mileage. My odometer and speedometer are incorrect, though, so its difficult to get an accurate figure. When I drive a trip I know is 800 miles, the odometer reads 700. My speedometer reads about 5 miles an hour too fast (it shows 60 when I'm going 55), but I dn't have equipment to test how accurate that is.

Scion says my noted variances are within their acceptable range, which I think is strange. I haven't modified my car at all. It seems there should be a simple way to make everything read more accurately.

Anyway, my gas mileage with mixed driving is probably about 32 mpg.

I just toped off my first tank of gas. I went 110 miles & only used 3.1 Gallons. So that right around 35.4mpg & thats with most of the driving being at speeds below 45mph & 4th gear or less Thats much better then what my Focus was getting with this kind of driveing (21mpg)

Drive 75 miles one way to work. My Xb has 30,000 miles on it. My average speed is 75mph. I was getting 32mpg, then last month I put a tornado fuel saver in - figured if it work great - if not it's only $15 bucks. And before everyone chimes in and screams about how all these gas savers are a scam, I've already heard them all. But I thought lets give it a try...now I get 36mpg and the only thing I changed was to add the tornado.

Now I'm waiting for my Weapon R Ignition Equalizer Kit. We'll see if I can squeeze a few more hp/mpg out of the box.

If gas keeps going up I may have to trade the box in for one of these:

Just recently i started checking out my mileage on my box now that the price is going up. I average about 270 to a tank of gas and i started saying hrmmm what is going on but as a person i am i know why i get that crappy gas mileage.

#! reason ITS A BOX
#2 I HAVE ABOUT 250lbs extra weight of added car audio
#3 ITS A BOX
Now if there was even such class action lawsuits or anything like that 1 thing is most of us will be uneligable because of the mods we have done its not the stock car and it is not what they built. I just now have to dig even deeper into my pocket now gas is 3.00 a gallon beats my Trans Am i got rid of for this because gas was getting high and as much as i liked to drive i can drive something better slower something i wouldnt have my foot mashed to the floor 95% of the time im driving.

Well I actually am in the process of contacting the better business bureu. I am running totally stock and I avg 18mpg. I tried to take it to the dealer and the service manager told me it is what it is and wouldnt look at the car untill it has 10k miles on it becasue that is the break in period. Right now I have 2k. So I took it to another dealer (2hrs away) they gave me attitude but I refused to leave till my car was looked at, they had it on the lift for maybe 5 min and came back with "The computer cant read anythign on your car till it has 5k miles on it." My next step was to call the regional office for Toyota and nothing was solved. So I called Scion corporate and they said a 3k break in. I read the manual and it says "Your car doesnt need an extensive break in after 1k you should be running normal." So now I am getting the state involved. All I wanted was for my car to be looked at to see if we could figure this problem out. I love my Scion but after the way I have been treated I dont want my car anymore and will now boycott any Toyota product.

I'm averaging right at 31 now. '05 5 sp. w/ 17" wheels. 1200 miles

I first got just over 30 (under 1000 miles), now I'm getting almost 32. Almost all city stop-and-go driving.

I may consider placing the stock wheels back on a couple of different times to see if the wheels really do make a difference, but I doubt that they will (with 17"s, even though the wheel weighs a little more, there is less rubber for the drive-train to have to turn. This makes for a more direct connection to the road, so the drivetrain doesn't have to work so hard).....

havent tested mine yet got it uesterday, but will be monitoring it

- i always put in gas treatment, i think it helps...not much but it seems to. consider we really never know how good some gas can be, with high prices and people wanting profits.....i like to try and make it smoother

- sometimes i will put in fuel injection cleaners also, that can make a diff

- obviously use the a/c less, use only when you really need to....of course i live in FL so damn well most days are way too hot so gotta use a/c

- change air filters as needed, or clean if you dont use stock

yeah i know maybe all of this is obvious, just felt like getting myself more disciplined too lol

I do believe that the XB under certain conditions possibly being a manual an do 34 to 35 mpg from who I have spoken with, but I have also spoke with an older lady who is in her 60's, obviously Im sure she drives slow, and she gets 28 to 30 around town she said. I have also been considering a Toyota Corolla, Im not much for the interior, I love the xB, but people say they get 38 to 41 consistantly on the Corolla, that is tempting vs. 30-32, however I think that is manual, and they do not rent, so I'll let you know what I get on the Corolla this weekend on a highway trip. and will see how it compares to EPA figures on that vehicle.

ever since i did mods to the box, intake header exhaust my milage has been doo doo. i think its because i may have an exhaust leak when i put the headers on. but hey it hits the red line really quick now i still use less gas than my friends chrysler 300, i think i use in a month what he uses in a week and a half
