Power door locks, bug or feature?
I have an 05 xA.
I was with my wife, getting out of the car on the driverside. I hit the lock button as my wife was getting out. I forgot something in the car, and asked my wife to unlock the door since she hadn't close it yet.
Well as it turns out, the passanger (un)lock button didn't work.
I had to unlock the car with the key to get in. I tested the button to see if it was faulty. If she locked the car from the passenger side, she could unlock it and lock it and unlock it. The button worked. If I locked the car from the driver side, then the passenger side button could not trigger unlock or lock.
I think it got disabled after I locked the car from the driver side. Whats the deal with that, some kind of safety feature?

If I'm understanding this right it has to do with the driver door working as a keyless. On my Sport Trac if I locked the truck with the keyless entry no door lock worked from the switch. This was due to a double tap unlock that is pretty classic of older BMW's.
If the Pass door lock button works with the key in the ign. I would say it is by design. If not it's prolly messed up.
You know you can unlock all doors by turning the key in the drivers door twice to unlock. Not the same for the pass side.

I just learned something useful. I skipped the keyless entry option, and this thing about unlocking all the doors from the drivers side by unlocking twice is great. I'm glad you mentioned it. Thanks.
My car allows me to unlock all the doors from the passenger side just by unlocking once.
btw, I tried another xA and noticed that when I start the car the doors lock. Any idea on how to turn that on?

It's a standard feature, just make sure all your doors are closed before you start the car.... it'll also auto-unlock all your doors when you switch off the engine
okay...so had a friend with me and tried it...i got out, my friend got out, i locked the car and then closed my door...and then asked her to unlock in since she hadn't closed her door yet...and what do you know...it doesn't unlock the car????? i am confused with you all

it's disables the interior switches to keep someone from pokin a coat hanger through the window and hitting the unlock switch, especially on locking mechanisms that are hard to access with a slim jim. . . which a lot of thieves do on cars with power locks and no alarm. That way they don't have to break the glass.
