I guess I don't hang out at the right places. I've never seen a ricer driving around (as opposed to in a show) with a body kit that WASN'T in primer or gel coat -- and about to fall off.

not in principle, even though we can change our cars. a black youth driving a nice car or driving in a white neighborhood cannot change his skin.

OK, and I agree with that. And they may and should LOOK hard at those cars.

better be a -reason- and not a mere -suspicion-. It's one thing to eye a car and run its plate but it's another reason to PULL over the driver just to interrogate based on suspicion. There must be due cause for that suspicion: such as a vehicle or moving violation or that the suspect driver just stopped and picked up a hitchhiker (prostitute or drug deal)

... and you're better off doing what they ask you and then getting a lawyer if you feel violated. Crummy situation though, I hope I don't get stopped any time soon for this reason.
yes, sigh a agree with all that you closed by saying. Correct.

no one should feel liable to get stopped on suspicion -just because- they drive a profiled car. In fact, the officer in question had enough "due cause" to stop TJ and inquire. After all, two cars of high profile description were pace-racing up to the speed limit (but that's no crime). So he did his yob.. just not so deftly.

This is the era of George Bush and Homeland Security. Officials don't need a reason for anything anymore. Black, white, we're all screwed.

what I mean by "do his yob",
and Reverend TJ may agree
is that the daily job of your P.D. is
the minding-well of Your Own Business.

That, too, is a job, you see,
and not an easy job, no sirs!

But it's a job which must be done
with skill and tact and
wisdom...
sometimes imperfectly...
because po po's
are not mind readers
even though some
police approach to very nearly
exactly that!

OH! Everyone should go back and read the first post again! I had forgot to mention...well, I'll save you the time...I added this:

He at this point, also asks me, "Do you have any pot in there?", pointing to the car. I said, "No!" , and he says, looking at me, "Good. Don't do drugs. " (no, I'm not kidding).

Sorry I forgot that earlier....

Your question reminded me of something I had forgot to put in the first post. I suspect, that he thought it was something to hold drugs. It is a silver, metal case, with a cross on it. It closes tight over the Bible. I got this Bible (and have one in my xA as well), since if it fell out of the car, it would survive the fall.

Now, a friend of mine, when I told him this story, said maybe he thought it was a herion (sp?) case.

Huh. Well, I would never had guessed that.

this reminds me of the jay-z song ,99 problems... but this will continue to happen cause people wont do anything, people say get a lawyer if you feel violated ,but how many people can afford a lawyer, and how many people have the time to go threw the bs, cops know this, thats why they continue to do it. just my 2 cents

Hey TJ, I think the pot question was 'cause you were jamming to Hotel California!!! Are you one of them there dope smoking Hippies?
I wonder how many time people actually say yes when he asks if they have any pot in the car....

Sorry to hear about your ordeal. I guess it comes with the territory of owning a unique looking vehicle like the xB. Glad to hear you made it through it relatively unscathed now you can laugh about it for many years to come.

This approach, lumps everyone into a group. Am I a gang banger/racer? No. Just because I drive a SCION, should not mean that I am one of those folks. Around here, a lot of older (and I mean, like, in their 60s) folks drive the Box. Now, I will say, not a lot of them have lowered the Box and all..but still.

I can, to a small degree, understand how it must feel to be caught DWB.

Just because some of the younger SCION owners might race their cars, does not mean all of us are. And since I am young at heart, and consider myself a Hot Rod type of person, I do like to trick out my car. But not so I can race some Honda down the street.

Not that I would lose...(er, cough)...but you see the point.

Bush should back off, man!

My questions is... who races an xB? they are not exactly going to win anything but cool points for the look.

lol i dont think you even win cool points if you race a xb, i would just shake my head, cause it s hard sometimes to keep up with people on the highway in orlando, if it wasnt for epass i would be a stain on the highway.

The third night in my new box drew the attention of a local cop. I took my 8 year old son to the movies and on the way home (about 11PM), I noticed a cop follow me for about 3 miles down the road. I wasn't speeding, but he must have been running my tag. I hope it's not a sign of things to come.

It must be more prevalent in the southern areas.... I've gone 10-15 mph over the speed limit like 4 times in my box on different occasions passing through speed traps. They didn't seem to care. I know I got lucky those times, I feel that if I was driving something other than my box, I could have gotten pulled over. Seems to be quite the opposite in the Northeast area.

I've only gotten one ticket, going 88 in a 55. Now that's understandable, heh.

Getting profiled is fun, I'm from Roseville and I live in Vallejo and I've been pulled over twice in each town...no tickets yet, lucky me!

hehe, i think you're right about our cars being "INVISIBLE" here in the northeast, i generally run down I-81 at 10-15 mph over the limit, only got pulled over 1 time. the cop offered me the choice of a speeding ticket (80 in a 55 zone) or a seat belt ticket. (no points, no hassles)
80 bucks and i was good to go

i got pulled over for no apparent reason by a cop going the opposite direction on a 4-lane road. He claimed i was speeding (how can he clock me from a moving vehicle?) In 35 years of driving i've never been pulled over by a moving cop, pulling a u-turn in the middle of the road.

I had my wife and three kids with me (i'm 50 years old). He ran my social and let me go. I feel that he pulled me over 'cause of my xb. If i had been younger i bet he would have tried to ticket me for something...
