Default Question about brakes ... from a woman

Yeah, i know ... some my laugh about it but is it normal to need to replace brakes at 12,000 miles????

i mean i dont know if they are brakes but the back left wheele/break makes this crazy noise when i slow down!!

and i know when i take to the dealer brakes are like twice are more if i was to go to some other shop ... and i know they will make me sign paper that if they dont do iwill have to pay whatever the check up fee is!!

And also ... are there any shops that someone can reccoment here in Orlando/Altamonte area that are not expensive and scion friendly?

thanks for help

That is very early to have brakes replaced.

Since I don't live in your area, I can't recommend a brake shop.

12k miles is WAY too soon for brakes to be going bad. I'd take it in to the dealer and see if they will cover it under warranty first. The worst they cold say is that it is not covered. Then take it anyplace you want to get the problem fixed. It couldn't hurt.

You problem should be covered under warranty and the proper spelling is "Brakes"

My dealership has a warranty for uhhh... 12 months or 20,000 miles (or something)? for stuff like this... Just to make sure you have good working parts in your car. After that though, brakes (breaks) aren't covered anymore.

It depends on your driving, I have burned through brake pads that quick on other vehicles because I'm a last second braker. You know, one foot on the gas, one on the brake..... Take a look at how you are driving and get the lifetime pads, that way you can take them back when they wear out and get free ones.

Shops run specials all the time on brake replacements, check the paper or call around.

Good luck

Brake pads are almost never covered under warranty. Other brake problems might be.

The quickest I went through brake pads was 20,000 driving bumper-to-bumper every day on the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago. Stop and go kills brakes. Now my brakes hardly every get heavy wear and tear.

You may not need new brakes at all. If your left rear is making noise, it may just be dirty and need adjustment. Take it in and get it fixed at the DEALER. They know what they're doing.

I had a friend back in school that went through pads on his Corolla every 6000 miles. The car was in perfect working order too. He was just that hard on them.

If you abuse your brakes and use them hard, then yes, it is normal to replace at 12,000 miles...

Yeah, take it to the dealer to find out what's the deal.
And soon! Brake problems are not the thing you want to put off!

I just had the brakes done on my xB. My wife drives it 99% of the time, she drives from Laurel Md to Mclean Va every day in stop and go traffic. I took it back to the dealer and was not cover but it cost me 200 or so.

Brake pads are a wear item. Unless there's something wrong with the car that's causing them to wear too soon, they won't be covered.

Just wondering - Do you have an auto or a stick?

I don't know about Scion's warranty, but I work for a Dodge dealer and brakes are covered on everything we sell during the first 12 mos. and 12k miles. I've done warranty brakes as late as 15k (usually with a little customer _____ing first). That being said, they are front disc brakes that go this early, your rears are drums, so they usually last 2-3 times longer than fronts (roughly 75% braking done by the fronts. )Take it to the dealer and don't pay!!!

if you drive using both feet (in an auto) and ride the brake (leave your foot on the brake), that may be why your BRAKES are wearing out.
