Default questions to xb owners who have driven tc's

unfortanately i am currently a tc owner, i love my car, but it is not what i originaly wanted. my question is for anyone who has owned and/or driven both more than just a few times. I am thinking about trading in to get the xb since that is originaly what i wanted.

questions i have.........which one rides better??? more comfortable??? is the engine in the xb as reliable and durable as the engine in the tc????? which handles better???

overall i just dont want to go down in comfort and overall ride quality. im not worried about the xb being way slower than the tc since i have a weekend toy to get in trouble with.

anyone that has had much experience with both, info would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks!!

tc will handle better, but I think the xb is more comfortable ride wise, I've driven several stock tc's and the seats just don't feel comfortable to me

IMO this is a tough ? as you are comparing apples to oranges. Both ride different, sit different, sound different....

I like the way the tC sits, but i wouldnt trade my box for one. The tC will handle better cause of weight and stance. You can get a box to handle well and corner likes its on rails, but its no tC.

Owned my tC for a year. I liked it, but as soon as I was able to ride in a xB for more than a test drive around the block. I was sold.

The xB is very comfortable. I'm 6'2" and I fit in the xB very comfortably. As for ride quality it depends on what your taste is. You can make it ride how you like. Mine rides a little stiffer than my tC, because I have lowering springs and low profile tires. My tC was stock. I like the way my xB rides, though. Feels like its on rails. Can't really remember what stock feels like.

You wont have to worry about engine reliablity. Its a toyota!

I'm happy with my trade.

I owned a tC for 8 months and an xB for a year.. The tC's handling sucks. period. I'm sure there are things the help the tC's handling, but if you have ever driven a car that handles well, you'll know how bad the tC is.. But it's a much more comfortable ride, you sit back, relax, and drive it.. You sit up more in the xB, and my lower back would start feeling some wear and tear on 1 hour + trips, which is one of the reasons I ended up trading it.. I started having to drive back and forth to Indy every weekend, and my back couldn't take it anymore...

You have a classic case of looks vs. comfort on your hands.. I'm not saying the xB necissarily looks better than the tC, but since you wanted it more to begin with, I'm guessing you like the looks of it better... Hope this helps.

i realize they are totally different. im not worried about it handling like my tc.

maybe i should explain this a little better!! lol i want to know if it is a softer more comfortable ride on the highway, over bumps and roadvibration, stuff like that.

im not worried about it handling like a sports car, i have a full built 73 stingray to play in the corners on the weekends. the tc has a stiffer ride kind of like it,, not nearly as stiff but kind of.

i want to make sure that the xb doesnt ride like the tc, i dont want it if it has as stiff or stiffer of a ride. i realize the tc is a little heavier and sometimes that helps soften the ride, so is that gonna hurt the ride in the xb???

A stock xB has rear shocks that are too stiff and jiggly. Changing to SensaTrac rear shocks makes the rear match the front. The ride is then firm but not harsh. I have 10K miles like that, including a 2500 mile trip, and it is fine.
For a softer ride you can use ComforTred tires, which reduce handling and mpg a little bit. Or you can install Koni shocks and struts and put them on soft setting. The xB can therefore be tailored to any kind of ride you want.

my g/f has the B and I took it on a long trip and I was somewhat uncomfortable. I dont like the position of the steering wheel and the seat. The power loss is horrible, made me miss being in the C. But it works for some people.

I'll put it like this. I own a crown vic, which is very soft and comfortable. Since I added the box to the family, it doesn't matter to me which vehicle I drive, so yeah... I'd say the box is very comfortable. But understand this, it's the difference between sitting up or kicking back. I think the tC may be more of a kick back car too, because of it's ride height. Have you driven an xA? You'll love it, but unfortunately it's not as convenient as the box for carrying stuff.

Ok, this is a tough question, my wife has a tC and I have an xB, I like both cars alot...however, whenever, we take ANY kind of a trip, we take the xB, why, I LOVE the room. As far as ride quality goes, both cars are on stock rims, and have stock tires, the tC is a little quieter, but I find the seating position, and seat comfort of the xB much better. We drove my xB to Colorado from Iowa, the only thing an xB really is missing is Cruise, its a must add if you drive much..As far as ride quality, it rides a little rougher than the tC but mostly due to the short wheelbase.. remember many of the people who complain of a rough ride are on after market wheels with less rubber between them and the road, it does make a huge difference.

My wife loves the power of the tC, but drove my car for a week solid awhile back, and decided that she wouldn't miss it that much,so she decided to order an xB for herself... so soon we will have two xBs in the family..

wife and I take the tC on long trips since the car has better highway stability and cruise control and cruises at a more reasonable RPM and doesn't buck around on really windy days and I still like my xB too. It's your choice. So the seats are a little harder, At least you can rock them back a bit. That's a non-adjustable feature on the xB.

tc by no means handles better.

stock for stock the tc is faster. other than that i honestly cannot stand that car.

thanks for all the input guys, i guess im just gonna have to talk to my buddy at the dealership and see if i can take it for a little longer test drive than just around the block to see what i think.

again speed isnt an issue and hard cornering isnt an issue since i have the vette to play around with.

ride comfort is my only issue, and it sounds like the seats are a big part of that problem, i didnt know that the seats were different. at a quick glance they look the same but then again that doesnt really mean anything. is it possible to bolt tc seats in a xb??? they have the same material so they wouldnt look different would they???

Due to the OEM KYB shocks in the rear, the xB probably rides rougher than your tC. But the SensaTrac shocks only cost $75 a pair and everybody installs them in the driveway using a couple of wrenches without lifting the car in 20-30 minutes. After doing that, there might not be much difference in ride compared to a tC. I would not let $75 and 30 minutes stand between me and a car I really wanted.
To make an xB handle more like a tC, add a rear sway bar for $150 and 20 minutes in the driveway with wrenches and no lifting.
Since we are both in the same city, PM me if you would like to see what my xB with SensaTracs and a sway bar feels like.

swapping the rear shock is a big diff, but when you do the struts too it is like night and day.
