I was stopped over the weekend and found out that my tint is way too dark. I'm ok on the fronts but my rears tested at 5%.........will I mess up my antenna and defroster by removing the tint???

is the tint in the back stock, or did you tint over the existing factory colored glass?
if it is the stock factory colored glass, there is nothing you can do. if you tinted over the existing glass, you can remove the tint with a razor, and you'll be fine so long as you don't cut the defroster leads on the rear window, and the 2 quarter windows..

no, likely the Tinter put 20-15% over your already Colored glass. you'd bee peeling that, But grab a hair dryer or a Steamcleaner just incase. Eh. hope it helps.

sorry i didn't read your bio... peel the tint off the back, or if you think you may have trouble, take it to a tint shop, and have them remove it.. then go with a lighter shade in the rear, keeping in mind, the factory glass has some "tint" in it.. see if they can get the tint to be even with the fronts

how long have you had the tint? I just got mine done. Its only a matter of time before someone notices and makes a fuss, but How long is totally random, Depending on your ability to get noticed already. There are certain cities in which the Code Enforcement officers would make a fuss in, more than others. But avoiding those situations would be the easiest.

What may I inquire was the Original nature of the Stop, or Testing of the Tint?

I've had it on for about a year now........and it is 20% over the factory colored glass......and the reason for the stop was just because the officer said my tint was too dark, then she tested it with the tintmeter.

You can fight those tickets. Its all in the procedure they use, how often the meter was calibrated, the condition of the meter, if the officer cleaned (BOTH!) sides of your window before placing the sensor, ect.

I know it's different for every state, but here you can have the back and rear sides as dark as you want. If your front was ok I can't believe they had a problem with the front.

I think that technically you can have all the windows from the B pillar back completely blacked out. What would they do if you had turned it into a panel xB like others have done? Plus the HHR now comes as a panel so I think you can go as dark as you want the rearward winders. It's calssified as a truck so it qualifies just like a window less panel van.

OR, you can get a prescription from your eye doc and then you can have the tint as dark as you want even on the front doors, at least thats the way it is here in MS, and thats what I did.

I'm thinkin of goin to see the eye doctor.......to see about the perscription.....looks like that is the best way if I want to keep the tint......luckily I was just given a verbal warning.
I checked the laws and it's up to $1000 fine and/or 1 year in jail........just for tint violations in Georgia!!
