The last 2-3 times I've started up my xA the "REQUIRED MAINTENANCE" light has come on blinking.
I'm not exactly sure what it is telling me needs to be checked tho. Now, my ODO is very close to 10k miles (time for the second oil change). Is the car "smart" enought to know that it needs an oil change at 10k miles, or what??
As far as I know there is nothing else that could be triggering the light.

What other things should I be on the lookout for?

 

you shoulda had a second oil change a long time ago.

Toyota says that you only need an oil change every 5k miles. I had the first one done at 4.5k. At 10k it would normally only be the second oil change.

 

5000 miles is normally OK. It is time for a change. Check your manual. It tells you all of this.

 

The "REQUIRED MAINTENANCE" light comes on every 5,000 miles to remind you to change your oil. Press the odometer button and turn the key to the on postion and wait for the odometer reading to count down and stop blinking. This will reset the required maintenance light.
