Road Trips in the xB
Has anyone taken their xB's on long road trips? How does it handle? And how comfortable is it to drive for long periods of time?
My fiancee and I like to drive around the country a lot. Planning to drive to Michigan from Los Angeles shortly after getting the car. We usually take her 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee but the xB would give us better mileage.

I took mine from Ft Lauderdale to Jacksonville (~7 hours). Stayed at 70 MPH (5-speed) and got 41.5 MPG with about 350lbs of people and gear! It was pretty comfortable, except the lack of a Cruise Control. I wonder what it would be like to do a longer trip though.
one time when i first took my xB on the freeway, it scared me a little because when i pass the semi truck, the wind just push me to the side a little when i was going like 80mph.
we will be taking the xB to Sacramento from LA next 2 weeks because my dad wont let us borrow his Avalon again because he was being selfish. i hope the box wont flip over...

Jesus give me a break. The box isn't going to flip over driving next to semi-trucks. I drive across the Bay Bridge many times a week, often with the big "CAUTION: HIGH WINDS" sign illuminated. The box tracks straight and true. Any car is going to rock in the slipstream if a speeded out trucker passes you close enough. I recommend some driving lessons to overcome any fear of driving on the freeway. Nervous drivers are dangerous drivers, whether they are in a box, an Avalon, or a Volvo (which is usually the case).
We have driven our xB from SF to LA and back several times, SF to Tahoe and back several times, and SF to Montana and back once. The car is/was super comfortable, super versatile, super cool the whole way on every trip. It is a an excellent road trip vehicle, on road or off.

I put 5,000 miles on my XB in March. Drove from CT. to Florida. It was just me, so I had plenty of room. But with the seats folded down, you shouldn't have a problem hauling your gear.
The car handled great. I was going mostly 70-75, and had no problem in all driving conditions. My butt did get sore though.
But no more than it did in my Accord the year before.
Have a great time!

You'll find it comfortable. I frequently take it on 7 hour trips. My only complaints are no cruise ontrol or arm rest. But you can get those as aftermarket installs.
I'll be driving mine from Jacksonville, FL to San Antonio, TX in a couple of days... hopefully it will be a comfortable trip. I've made the trip several times in differnt cars, so... we'll see how comfortable it is this time. I still don't have a cruise though, so that's going to suck
I did Atlanta to Los Angeles in just over two days. I was able to sit in it for 10, 12 hour stretches stopping only to get gas or stop in a Motel for the night.
Handled well all the way. It wasn't fond of the Mountains of Arizona, but nothing that would make me avoid them.
It makes for a fun ride.

i just drove up to pa on sat. from va (6 hours) was fine the entire way i was following my parents and they did 70 mph (5 speed) the entie way and i got 32 mpg
. on my way home i left before they did and was doing 70-80mph the whole time
....i had to put $5 in my car just in case i ran out of fuel
before i got home
Drove mine for 15 hours last Friday. Towards the end my back was hurting. Don't know if that was being in the car for so long or the seat. Drove between 68 - 75 most of the time. Took it to 100 mph once just to say I did it.
Did a round trip to Philly 2x from NYC. 180 miles plus. Seats are OK (could use a little more lumbar support) and if you keep the windows open, oh the noise!!
Had to close the windows to reach 100mph on the NJ Turnpike.
Great thing is, for a lawn mower engine it is good between 60-80.
