If you let the Yakima site select a rack for the xB, you end up with their generic basic $235 Q Tower bars and supports that rests on the edge of the roof and clamps to the door frame. Then you add special accessories like the fairing, ski or bike or box attachments, etc. The cost really adds up.
I had a similar LLBean Easy Off rack for years on my BMW 2002 - just the plain bars with supports clamped to the rain gutters. Very practical and strong, carried 2x lumber, mattresses, plywood, ladders.
Also added a JC Whitney permanent screwed-on rack to my Toyota wagon. I did not like penetrating the roof, but it did not leak in the 2 years I had the car. But it the bars and the roof sheet metal were not strong enough to support much of a load. I would not use screwed on racks again.
