New xB owners, how often do you get your xB maintained is it every 5k ??? Or 15K? And i' not talking about oil change and stuff .. does anyone know what I mean??

 

Yup, I know what you mean. There is a maintenance schedule included with the owners manual packet. Most cars fall into the severe use maintenance schedule. Use this as a guideline and take it for maintenance accordingly. I personally do all my own maintenance and check things more often than the maintenance schedule suggests by far.

 

Right now I'm waiting on the service engine light to flash at startup, then heading to a dealer for a service. I do 100 miles on the highway daily, so it makes sense to do it every 5k with the light.

 

I'm like Ted. I do all my own work unless it's covered under warranty (which I haven't had anything yet) Knock on wood. Don't trust the stealer to touch it and F something up in the process. If ever need be they will have me there watching every move wether they like it or not!!!

N e way there right do what you can yourself. again I hate to say it also but i don't trust the dealer either. all there out to do is make a buck.

I have 12K miles and have already intalled rear SensaTracs, cabin filter and changed transmisison oil, and also changed the motor oil and rotated tires several times, all myself. So what I plan is:

15K Service (by me)
Rotate tires
Replace air filter
Replace cabin air filter
Change oil and filter

30K Service (by me)
- Motor oil and filter
- Trans oil (Redline MT-90 GL4)
- Tires (Sears - one size up in diam and width)
- Shocks and struts (Koni)
- Plugs (Denso Iridium w/ preset .044” gap)
- Cabin filter
- Air filter
- Clean battery

30K Service (by dealer)
- Change coolant
- Adj rear brakes
- Change brake fluid
- Replace PCV
- Service throttle body
- Perform electrical test
- Inspect steering components, all fluids, brake linings, and suspension
- Lubricate chassis/hinges

 

clean, adjust and lube the backing plate on your rear brakes. This is actually a very important step.

where the stealerships get you is with the coolant and brake fluid. costs alot and well, they dont do it. Especially since toyota tells the dealers not to touch it until 100K, oh yeah same goes for auto tranny fluid.

 

vintage42, don't forget about having your valve clearances checked also at the dealer. You may be able to wait till 60k for that though. And the struts and shocks should be able to go to 60k also. By then Monroe will have struts and shocks for the xB available. I think the Konis ride rough like the OEMs, yes or no?

 

The Maintenance Schedule shows the first valve clearance check at 60K miles, and it's probably not cheap, so I plan to wait until then and replace the timing belt at the same time. The Schedule never says when to replace the belt, just keep checking it every 30K. But I broke a Rabbit belt at 60K and think that's a good time to replace any rubber belt.
I have Tenneco's NAPA SensaTracs on the rear, and when I reach 30K miles, proper SensaTracs will be available for the front. But I was thinking of putting on Konis all around at 30K, and at the same time replacing the OEM Goodyear Eagles with Goodyear ComforTreds in 195/65R15 size.
The Koni's are adjustable, can be set from soft to hard and I would set them close to soft. And the ComforTreds have been described as marshmallows.

 

It doesn't have a belt! It's a chain.

 

wow i just noticed that. Seen too many echos, xb's, xa's etc with over 100k even echos over 200k and ive never seen or herd of a tech adjusting the valves. and oh yeah THERE IS NO TIMING BELT. Thats why it doesnt need to be replaced.

Not at all. Running the Konis set to their softest setting, and InTrax progressive springs, my ride is as good or better than stock. The big difference is the massively improved cornering/braking/handling. And keep in mind Konis are guaranteed for LIFE.

 

I was reffering more so to the non adjustable ones. Are they harsh riding like the OEMs or softer like the Monroe 5987s? Not worried about the shocks controling handling. That's why I have the Whiteline rear bar.

 

Oops. And I think I used to know that. OK, so I don't replace a timing belt, but why should the valves be checked at 30K when the manual says 60K?

 

I read it somewhere to have them checked at 30K but I could be wrong on that. I'm not gonna have them checked till 60K tho.
