Scion xB mpg
Hi, I am new here. I am thinking about buying a Scion xB, gonna sell my IS300 due to increase of fuel prices. Please tell me how many miles per gallon do you average. Thank You.
I'll help you out. People see from about 25 to 40 mpg, it is all on the way you drive the car. I drive mine like a bat out of hell, so I constantly see 27-28 mpg, and complain about it because I know people get better, but it's hard to change my driving style in a city where people run you off the road if you aren't moving as fast as they are.
I average 27-28 city, 35-36 highway. If I drive like I stole it I get about 22.
The xB milage is VERY sensitive to how it's driven.
Edited to toss in that mine is an automatic with 15" wheels and one size oversize tires, and I live/drive in hilly/mountainous terrain...

I get 30mpg +/-2 no matter where or how I drive (but I don't use my xB for extended road trips).
I consider this to be terrific performance, given that the vast majority of the miles are commuting in and out of the city.
It's an automatic, by the way. That's a distinction worth mentioning in MPG discussions of the xB.

I have never gotten below 30 MPG. That is mostly city driving. I havn't had time to take it on a long (multiple full tank) trip yet though. The vehicle is sensitive as others have mentioned. I had to run it hard for a few dozen miles to make a deadline, and I can already see that this tank is going to be lower than average.
I drive 60% city, 40% Highway. I average 33 to 34 MPG. I would describe my driving style as conservative, that is RPM's not above 3,000. I have an automatic transmission. Driving Style as many have already pointed out is the key to any cars gas mileage.
30~32 mpg average over 11k miles so far.
Thats 90% freeway, here in SoCal, so between 70~80 most of the time with 10~20mph bottlenecks now and again. Tach @ 3000~3500. Auto/stock '06 xB/stock 15" rims.
Worst tank=first one, 28mpg. Best=33.6...once. Probably could get a little better, but the xB is so much fun to drive!

I do all city driving.
Worst tank: 24 mpg average.
Best tank: 31 mpg average.
Overall, every tankful combined: 29 average.
Automatic transmission, stock wheels, cold air intake.
Driving style stayed the same. The worst milage is during the winter, the best in warmer weather. The xB auto tranny stays in lower gears when the engine is cold, and my commute is so short that I drive all the way to work and back again in 2nd gear at 4,000 RPM. Killer on milage.
Like everybody's saying, you've got to drive consertvatively to get high MPG. It's such a small engine.
Manuals get better milage if you shift them correctly.
