Hi All,
I'm running an '06 5-speed xB, stock. I use 87 octane gas as recomended. I've used 5 tanks of gas. Got 35 MPG on 3 and 34 on 2.
I got 35 on my last tank with a new front mask on. I thought it would hurt the mileage a bit, but it didn't.

2005 xB, manual, stock rims/tires, 23,000 miles 85% of which are highway miles. Usually cruise at 80mph with the AC on. Consistent 33+mpg. I keep a log of every gallon I put into my car and the mileage has never disappointed me.

I run only Chevron gas, always maintain proper tire pressure, Mobil 1 syn every 2500, and Chevron fuel system cleaner every 5000. So far so good and I commute 70 miles a day now, 7 days a week. :?

Im still a fan of the dino oil myself, but a have yet to go past 2K miles w/o dropping the oil.

5007 miles and 5 oil changes. Oil changes on the box are SOOOOOOO easy, I couldnt believe it when I jacked it up for the first time.

I used to hate doing oil changes on my Ford trucks. They always seem to put the drain right over a crossmember, causing the oil to split in two...OH NO! DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS!

2005 xB, manual, factory alloy wheels, 15,000 miles, even mix of city/hwy, pretty aggressive acceleration from a stop...getting a steady 35MPG since purchasing it new in Jan '05. Best MPG was approx. 37.25 MPG.

Just ran my first full tank since purchase. 2005 xb, manual, fact. 15's/caps, 85%city, and just to mention I'm a "full gas pedal/full brake pedal" (now with a little clutch thrown in) between every traffic light kinda driver. Hey, the cops can get you for how fast you go, but not how fast you get to that point. ;)

I digress, 29.85 mpg. Good enough for me to smile about.

Man Im jealous, I have an 05 auto with TRD exhaust and 18" Motegi's and I only see 26 MPH. Mostly city driving and I cruise, not even a lead foot. Did I get a lemon ? I have 10k miles on it, just did my second oil change...

My 2 cents: The synthetic base stock does hold up longer than petroleum-based oils, but the additives in both wear out at the same rate. The oil companies have tested their synthetics for longevity, but they still recommend following the specific owners manual for oil change intervals.

Another reason I am not a fan of syns is because people tend to leave them in longer than 5K. Regardless of oil type or filter, the oil still holds onto harmful acids that result from combustion. A filter will not get the acids out of the oil. These acids (and other nasties) are held in suspension in the engine oil, and the only way to get rid of them is to change your oil.

Of course, as always, your opinion may vary..

Still does not address the acid issue.

Im not trying to pick on you BTW, just tossing around my opinion.

I would rather replace my oil than find some way to leave it in the crankcase even longer.

at 5k the acids and byproducts shouldnt be so much as to cause hard , at 7k or 10k or 15k like some synthetics are saying i would think there to be too many acids and byproducts , but hey it also depends on how clean the motor is.

at least with synths the oil itself doesnt wear too much in addition of the byproducts being mixed in whereas with dino oils you get the oil wearing out and the byproducts.

Yeah, theres a lot of info out there and I am still going through it all. I am still not 100% certain either way (syn vs. dino).

My gut tells me this though: When was the last time synthetic anything was better than the real thing?

Just a thought.

And how clean the fuel is. If it is a summer blend or winter blend, etc.

I will have to try to find that article again to post it here. I am pretty sure they both lose additives at the same rate, and the additives are a big part of keeping the engine clean.

With that said, I DO see the benefit of using syn in cold climates. About the coldest I ever see though is 50F.

i wasnt talking about the additives per se , it was more along the lines of the acutual dino oil breaking down faster.

I have a question regarding gas mileage and all that have upgraded/bigger wheels. Has your mileage changed and if so how much? I am looking to upgrade my wheels to 18's and want to know what to possibly expect. Anyone with upgraded wheels, chime in please. Thanks

Hey Dimiscus, I have 18"s on my 05 and it appears that they have killed the mileage for me. Everyone else on here that is running stockers are getting great mileage so it have to be my wheels that are causing me to get on 24-27 MPG. I am thinking about switching back to the stock wheels to confirm my beliefs... the price we pay to look good : ]
