Default Servicing and the Check Engine light

I do a lot of miles in my xB, at the bare minimum I do 500 miles a week just commuting to and from work, never mind what I do on weekends or at lunch.

As a result the box I bought last May (06) has already done 15,000 miles.

It seems the Check Engine light comes on like clockwork (flashes a few times every time the engine starts up, not on solid), every 5,000 miles. I'm currently using this as my indication to take it to my dealer of choice for a service, oil change etc.

My question is - While the light flashes at startup, am I ok to keep on driving as many miles as I do? It came on last Sunday, but I can't get to the dealer until the next weekend, which is at least 500 miles away.

Thanks

it should not be a problem it is basicly just a dummy light. if you know that it is for the oil. put it to the odometer and then turn off the car, hold the button in and then turn on the key and odometer will blink and got to 00000 and you are reset. hope this helps

I like to take it to the dealer for servicing when I can, as it makes my life much simpler

As long as I'm ok with driving until this light comes on, then not in a rush once it's on, I can live with it!

it's fine to drive with the light flashing, just take it in as soon as possible...

Mine seems to come on more often than 5K. It gets to be a pain reseting it all the time. Is there any way to make it stop doing that short of removing the bulb?
