Default Steering column - (possible) issue?

When I turn the steering wheel on my xB, to the far left, i hear a sort of whistling coming from the steering column/engine bay area. as soon as i turn the wheels back to center position, the 'whistle' goes away.

is this something anyone else is hearing? is this an issue or is this okay...? im going to tell the dealer when I go back for my oil change in about 1,000 miles. steering my xB is absolutely okay, no noticable problems - just this sound when i turn the wheel to the far left.

thanks in advance,
- sh00k

Default Squeek on turn

When you max out the turn in eaither direction, the forced fluid from the pump with no place to go makes a strange noise.
But that should be the only time you here it.

good suggestion - im going to check the fluids when i get to the car. otherwise, like i said, i'll mention it at the dealer during the next oil change.

thanks for the responses ;]

If you turn to lock, you'll hear a noise... otherwise, I'd say you need some more steering fluid.
My Camry used to do that all the time.

Yep- the steering system should relieve the pressure at full lock to prevent pounding out the seals against the stops...

You'll hear a similar noise if the fluid is low or aerated, too... or if there's just a problem somewhere in the system...
