Default Stock Scion xB grill and road noise

As many of you know, I am the dude that went nuts and put 2 sets of crazy loud hella horns on my xB

I drive around without the stock grill on so the horns are not muffled by the grill. Recently, I took a road trip and drove with the grill off... I was doing over 80mph and decided to pull over and put the stock grill back on - I didnt want dirt/bugs/etc to get stock in my horns/engine compartment.

So I put the stock grill back on, got back on the road and immediately..... I NOTICED A HUGE DIFFERENCE! The cabin noise @ 80mph was MUCH less with the grill on!!!

I know this is a given, not a huge surprise, but i wanted to bring this up in case someone is replacing their stock grill with an after market billet type grill or any other mesh looking grill.

Although some companies provide a solid back plate that goes behind the grill, it will STILL increase the road noise coming into the cabin at freeway speeds.

I hope anyone finds this info useful. Now i learned only to drive around grill-less when i'm NOT on the highway.

hth and fwiw and all that jazz,
- sh00k

Thanks for the advice. This sucks cause I was gonna buy some billet grills and now I might not. I can't stand any more extra noise from the xB...
